Hi all,

Sorry to keep pestering you guys with all these questions, being a newbie and all. - but this time its more of a general question.

My insurance company has stipulated the bike must be fitted with datatag - they arn't concerned about the cat 1 alarm / immob.:dunno

So, not wishing to cancel the policy mid term (swapped over from my previous bike) I thought bollocks to it and bit the bullet.

The kit arrived today from M&P but has some bullsh*t about qualified persons installing it and getting a dealer stamp at the top of the document.

Does anyone know how binding all this stuff is or if I fit it myself are datatag arsed?

Cheers, Tony

datatag aren't arsed but your insurance company will use it to not pay out if it gets twoc - ed

Unfortunately I think datatag require an authorised third party to confirm the fitment of the kit so that it can be registered to the vehicle and onto their database. A protective measure by them to ensure people don't buy the kits and register them without fitting them. No trust in us you see! By rights you could fit it, then if you could find an authorised agent to inspect the fitment and stamp up the datatag registration then all would be well and good.

Realistically though, it means paying for someone to fit it or inspect it. Sorry!

Ok,

As I suspected.... got to line somebody elses pocket for a 1 hour DIY job, who's MORE QUALIFIED to fit it. :rant

Thanks again for the advise chaps

Cheers Tony

Going back 8 years now so seeing as I can't remember what I did last week then this could be complete bollocks, but:

When I bought my new R6 I had the datatag thrown in with the price of it and the local garage who I knew really well fitted it and did all the paperwork. When I bought my 748 I bought the Datatag kit off them and fitted it myself, nipped in with the bike and they did the paperwork for me to send off.

I guess it's just some way to at least try and verify that the kits been fitted to that particular bike if nothing else.
