Dash LCD Colour Change

A

amb67

I dislike my colour on my dash so much that I stripped it all down the other day.

What I found was that the central display was easily changed via a different coloured bulb. Changed mine to blue by fitting a blue LED bulb.

The LCD displays however are a different matter, the orange glow on 2001 models on and green on earlier models is achieved by a simple piece of transparent plastic.

I have ordered some blue transparent vinyl to replace my orange vinyl and will let you know the effect.

PS. The bulbs also have little orange or green socks on them too, gonna replace them as well.

Anyone else done this before?

Does it work?

amb, your such a copycat.....After seeing the inforad thread you saw RS3 mille had changed his dash....and cos it looks the dogs your copying him, lol

i've just changed mine from green to orange but am yet to test them out

Has RS3mille changed the colours of his LCD's?

I thought that he'd only changed the facia cover on his tacho.

Did you strip them down and pull out the vinyl at the back of the LCD unit?

yep
really easy to do to be honest

just take ya time, also with the little bit of rubber that can only fit in one way

just keeping the fingers away from the lcd screen is enough

Had them apart and know what you mean.

What did you use to change the colour?

I've ordered some 0.003" transparent blue vinyl specially for this from USA. Was only about £6 delivered, would have normally bought from UK but couldn't find a UK supplier.

I fancy going the whole hog and changing it all to blue.

If it looks **** I'll just put the orange vinyl plates back in, takes about 20 minutes to change them over.

Did you use Redial to get the centre plate remade?

Just tried to get on EZGraphics web site and it's either down or they've gone pop too.

where did you get the Vinyl AMB? does only changing the vinyl do the trick? I thought the LCD light had an EL(Electroluminescent Light) Film on the back of it. The blue looks tight RSV3 can you explain it more specifically . thanks

I tried ordering some goodies from EZGraphics and managed to order via a back door, I started chasing him when the goods never arrived.....Nice guy (Dan) came back to me and said that he had stopped trading for now and that he may start trading again in March 2009. They are the company that done some one off work for RS3 Mille.
I hope he does start up again

Hi Superyellow,

I got my transparent blue vinyl from this guy - Click Me - he does all colours you can imagine. The guys in the US so don't expect quick delivery, I ordered mine a week or two before Christmas and it's still not arrived - Doh!!

As fas as I can tell the standard LCD displays EL is white and it is purely the reflection off the orange backed vinyl that gives the display its colour tone.

Kool. thanks for the info again AMB. I live in California, US. I hope the UK customs are not "extra delayed" like the Turkish customs. ROFLMAO I'm thinking about getting red or maybe blue?. which one would look better one my Yellow bike with red accents? I soon will pimp it with blue decals and reflective yellow tape(the same tape on the local school bus) lol.. thanks

lol it's better than 3m it's flexible. I used it on my old Buell and then Suzuki to replace the ugly stock reflectors. I don't think the pigs care about the required reflectors however I like to have them for the dumb cages who cant's see ****! I put extra reflectors on my left side though. Anyway Me and my bud were checking out the new RSV they put the reflectors on the taillight assembly for an easy taillight eliminator! weeeee. who has the new white Aprilia on this forum? she can hang out with me! lol BTW I bought my tape off of ebay and it looks great when you cut dashed stripes with it! I could post a pic when I have time. :)

OK, I'm all done with my LCD colour changes.

I am not quite finished yet and will have to remove the dash again to add some shielding to deflect the glare from the LED's.

You never know I may even do a 'How to Guide' if I have time.

Here's a few piccies:
