Just a word of warning to anyone thinking of buying pattern part brake levers, DONT!! fitted one to my Tuono tonight (I know! I do have an RSV too though!) and it kept locking the front brake on, and by that I mean you would be riding along and the front brake would come on, and come on quite hard, stopped at side of road and removed and refitted, set of, half a mile later the saame again, ended up riding home without a front brake lever fitted at all, and you know what the back brake is like on these things!! Sent the guy I bought it from on Ebay a message about it, I await his reply!!

Just didnt want anyone doing what I have done and not be so lucky.

Must dash now, need clean knickers!!!

I got some levers for £37, pazzo looking type......fitted on perfect, 100 + miles so far with no problems. Also had pattern part brembo type before with no problems in 20,000 miles

What lervers did ya get.....post a picture

Some one here had the same problem i beleive, not sure if it was chinese ones though

The lever is putting pressure on the master cylinder and as the pads heat up its binding the brakes

Im almost certain its a fitting problem

Whats the fluid level in the resivior like, if its too high ther will be no room for the fluid to breath

My wifes titax brake lever flapped around after fitting and made the brake light come on and I had to mod it slightly

My thoughts as well ... " Im almost certain its a fitting problem "

I got these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320602585729&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

This guy had this to say about them.... " I'm using similar ' chinese' levers on 3 bikes and have fitted them to at least 7 others....mate crashed his bike on a trackday and the lever did the usual...broke its tip off...no weird breakage or bending and he could still ride the bike home "

I do think it is a cheap chinese one, looks identical to the genuine aprilia one.

Definately not a fitting issue, have been working on bikes for over 20 years and worked for a racing team for 6 years so know what I am doing, and there is only one fixing hole so quite difficult to get wrong! lol

It would appear the problem is with the part of the lever that pivots. The actual part of the lever that pushes the pin into the master cylinder is closer to the cylinder than the original, which in my opinion does not allow the plunger to fully return within cylinder thus not allowing fluid to return out of the system quick enough to allow pads to clear disk and then causes the binding problem as stated by dynamo.

Have now made a new lever using the pivot part of the existing lever, and the actual lever part of the new lever and all is well again.

Do not think there is an issue at all with levers like Pazzo, titax, CRG etc as the price reflects the quality of these items.

I do think though if something needs modification to make it work properly it should not be allowed to be sold, you wouldn't buy a bike with square wheels would you if the guy said, well if you modify them so they are round you will be fine? Although knowing some of the tight gits I know I may well be wrong on that one! lol

Makes my blood boil thniking that people are allowed to sell this stuff that could really easily injur someone or wreck their pride and joy!

Rant over!! :)

Hi,

Just thought I would add I have received my pattern brake levers from China (Fire Dragon Brothers) through ebay. £20 for levers, £15 postage - arrived 6 days later and they are spot on. Manufactured and engineered to a high spec, they feel quality, look exactely like Titax and I have had no problem fitting or using (over 300 miles since fitting). They did not come with the pivot and plunger that fits into the clutch and brake master cylinders so they were adjusted and fitted from original levers but well worth a look if you don't have £130 for Titax etc..

I know some people won't fit pattern levers and thats there choice but I have found these to be spot on. (25 years as an engineer and mechanic so I have some experience).

Rgds:):)

Maybe it was a lever for a different bike......still no problem with my levers.....no lever is worth £150 in my book FFS its just a name rip off thing

I to had this problem with Chinese levers, but easily solved. When the brakes/clutch were applied the lever did not fully returnon release. This was caused by the lever being a little thicker than stock and was sticking. 10secs with a dremel and problem sorted. Done about 500 miles and love them.
