Crashed my mint Mille R

L

littlescrote

Had an accident on the way to work this morning. Totally my fault as I was overtaking a line of traffic and tried to accelerate past a truck to nip in front of him before a traffic island in the middle of the road. Halfway past it became clear that I would not get in front of him so I braked but locked up the front on the marbles. Somehow I stayed more or less upight by bouncing between the trailer and the island and fell off after the island. I'm in one piece and feel very lucky as I could have easily gone under his wheels

Pics of the bike to follow, but there is not too much damage as the R&G crash bungs did their work well, but the bike is no longer the absolute minter that it was :rant

front fork slider damaged but kept the Ohlins mint

indicator broken but no big deal

the worst damage is to the front top fairing which has worn through. but it did have a few stone chips and was letting down the mintness of the rest of the bike. might look at carbon wrapping it, or if anyone knows of one for sale (carbon or std in the right colour)...?

front upper crash bung did it's job. it bent it's bolt but the mounting bracket, frame, fairing etc are all unharmed

rear lower bung also took a lot of the impact and have protected the fairing and frame perfectly

swingarm bobbin protected the rear

all in all, both me and the bike are not too badly off considering what could have happened. i was such a **** and will never try and accelerate into a gap again.

thanks to martyn (farmer giles) for keeping the bike mint before me and for fitting some of the R&G kit and thanks to the 2 guys that stopped to see if i was alright and couldn't believe that i walked away and didin't need an ambulance. thanks also to the yamaha rider who stopped and checked me and the bike out to make sure everything was alright. i rode it the mile or so home and it's now tucked up awaiting new parts.

Hope your ok fella ..........Looks like them R&G's took a bit of a bashing but also saved a lot of your bike .....

Mate I'd say you should be dancing a jig of joy after that lucky escape! Looks like your Mille will go back to mint with very little work.:thumbup

sorry to hear about your off, but praise to r&g what a great job they have done in protecting your pride an joy , glad you are ok too :thumbup

I had an off at about 60 mph coming out of a left hander recently on my 00 mille r. Worst thing is unfortunately i didnt have any crash bungs! So, after my current repair job is completed, a set of R&Gs will adorn as many areas of the bike as possible! (BMW GS style crash bars are very effective, but think they would kinda ruin the looks!)

glad your alright fella... id do the lottery numbers this week*!! :biggrin

i bet if you had a 'Hooked' airkit & Dr Rossi chip you would of made the gap !! :devious

* & let me have the numbers !! :thumbup

those crash bungs saved your *** dude... this is what happend to mine at about 15mph.... ££££££

hello R&G, yeah set of crash bungs please...

Glad you are k mate that is the main thing. R&G are brilliant aren't they. I had to use their services in my R1 and they took all the brunt when I dropped it at 15mph. Didn't touch any of the panels or frame etc. Brilliant investment.

I also had to employ the services of R&G on my blade after going into a corner way to hot defently worth the money

Glad you are fine and that the bike is essentially okay bar some minor cosmetic stuff. :thumbup

Bungs spoil the lines/look of a bike BUT your experience has convined me that the trade off is worth it - a convert here :eek:mg

tut tut Nick what are you like

Glad your ok matey if you want any help with covering it in carbon just say the word:thumbup

wasnt going to put any bungs on(all my other bikes have had them) this one till this morning when i was backing up and lost my footing i tell ya it made me want to:puke will be getting a set now

when I droped my TL1000R the R&G bungs did there job and my missus used to drop her zxr400 almost every time we went out and againthe R&g bungs were spot on:doug:doug

Take it easy mate

Matt
