Had an accident on the way to work this morning. Totally my fault as I was overtaking a line of traffic and tried to accelerate past a truck to nip in front of him before a traffic island in the middle of the road. Halfway past it became clear that I would not get in front of him so I braked but locked up the front on the marbles. Somehow I stayed more or less upight by bouncing between the trailer and the island and fell off after the island. I'm in one piece and feel very lucky as I could have easily gone under his wheels
Pics of the bike to follow, but there is not too much damage as the R&G crash bungs did their work well, but the bike is no longer the absolute minter that it was :rant
front fork slider damaged but kept the Ohlins mint
indicator broken but no big deal
the worst damage is to the front top fairing which has worn through. but it did have a few stone chips and was letting down the mintness of the rest of the bike. might look at carbon wrapping it, or if anyone knows of one for sale (carbon or std in the right colour)...?
bar end took a hit but the clutch lever did not get bent
front upper crash bung did it's job. it bent it's bolt but the mounting bracket, frame, fairing etc are all unharmed
rear lower bung also took a lot of the impact and have protected the fairing and frame perfectly
swingarm bobbin protected the rear
front wheel has a bit of paint chipped off the rim where i hit the kerb but is not bent or anything
all in all, both me and the bike are not too badly off considering what could have happened. i was such a **** and will never try and accelerate into a gap again.
thanks to martyn (farmer giles) for keeping the bike mint before me and for fitting some of the R&G kit and thanks to the 2 guys that stopped to see if i was alright and couldn't believe that i walked away and didin't need an ambulance. thanks also to the yamaha rider who stopped and checked me and the bike out to make sure everything was alright. i rode it the mile or so home and it's now tucked up awaiting new parts.
