Crash Bobbin's. Are they worth the money?

I imagine that if i slide my bike up the road that a crash bobbin isnt gonna save much. Only reason i ask is that with this being the winter i find myself taking the piss with the levels of grip on our wet leaf riddled roads. Is spending a couple of hundred quid on these plastic mushrooms gonna save me a small fortune if i bin it in this far from good weather? :confused :dunno

You'd be surprised how much they save! The difference between riding home and calling recovery.

There is a bit of anecdotal experience in my riding group of crashing with and without bobbins.... nowadays we've all got bobbins

I have them fitted cause they can save you hundreds of pounds in panel damage, let alone the damage to the frame and swingarm.

IMO they should be fitted as standard to all new bikes.

So does everyone just get the mid panel ones and the lower ones by the pegs?

I've just got one either side, near the pegs. If I got any more I'd get something to protect the exhausts...

I have the brackets already fitted for the mid panels. Can you get any bobbin with an M10 bolt to fit it or must they be bike specific. Bloody expensive things! I've just been looking on R&G's website. Any cheaper brands out there?

Deffently worth the money after low sideing my blade last year I realised how good they were no pannel damage just a scuffed barend and mirror I have them on my mille i've only got the mid section at the mo I did have the lower ones by the pegs as well but I had to take those off as I couldn't reach the side stand.:):)

Did you not see me struggle like a fool trying to get at my sidestand the other day?

It's worth the hassle though, oh and the bruised shins till you get used to them. :dunno

just bought a set of r&g bungs for forks and swingarm, £60 delivered. good quality tho but cheaper ones available of the bay. think someone makes fork and swingarm bobbins for £30!

I just thought you were doing a little dance.:):)

i've just ordered some r&g's....the front fairing ones.hopefully should be pretty easy to fit as gixerhowie already took care of the holes being drilled
think its better to be safe than sorry....they save a lot of damage when its a low speed slide

Lol I think i'll take a chance and leave them off, when they were on the onlx way I could put the stand down and bring it up again was to ask some one to do it for me not good if I was out on my own.:):)

How do the crash bungs interfere with the side stand? I think mine are R&G's in the lower pos and apart from a few shin/bung interface probs early on I've never had a problem. Well not with stands anyway LOL :devious

Fit them without a doubt, I have binned a bike on a trackday and speak from experience, definately fit the upper fairing and lower frame bobbins if nothing else, it's amazing what gets squashed under the fairing when they go down (oil tank for instance) as far as I know there aint much can be done regards cans although I know someone who mounted some on the hangers and when he fell off he bent the rear subframe so obviously dont try that !

Its kind of hard to exsplain but however hard I tried I could not get to the side stand haveing said that the 2 people that rode my bike at that time didn't seem to have a problem I think it had something to do with my size or lack of it ment I couldn't bend my leg round the bung to get at the side stand.:):)

I have them all round and hope I never have to test if they were worth the money. I initially got some of the cheaper ones off fleabay that a lot of people on here have got and they were good but when I got a set of carbon infills and R&G's for the uppers I got the lowers to match and just put the others in the garage. I have cheaper ones on the forks and swingarm but will definately be putting R&G's in the new year just for aesthetics.
If you can't afford the more expensive ones go cheaper to start until you can afford them.
Anyway enough talk about potential crashing.....happy riding:thumbup

I went over in the cold..beware roling off the throttle when you have just set of in cold conditions. anyway i had R&G bungs all round and it saved the side panel but not the tail or my headlight but i did go over on the kurb so I can't complain. I wouldn't bother with the acitate sheet they send with them.. i used a laser level and a dremel. Its a shame you have to cut holes in your carbon ducts too so it might be worth buying some after market ones (ebay about 60 quid)
