Crankcase Oil Leak

Hi All.

I've only been on here a while, only getting my RSV last October, and i've only lurked really since.
After a rideout last week, I was enveloped in oily smoke, and there was oil in the bellypan.
On closer inspection I found this inch long 'chip' on the back of the crank case where the surfaces meet.
I think I know the answer to this, but does this need the casing replacing, or at the very least require the engine dropping and stripping to repair it?
Is there any other 'easy fix'?

Hope the link works.

cheers

If it is then its not the prob obviously just a casting mark but if the inch long chip and its leaking oil its a big prob!! You sure ur cases are still tightened up may be worth checking them!!!
Without a pic of where this oil is leaking from its very hard to give you any diagnosis.......

Thats a pic of my bike ive just taken and that 'chip' is there to drain water from the apeture in the casting behind it. The nuts on the rear engine mount bolts are behind that part of the engine case, it will be there on all RSV's.

Shows what a fking Donut I am , thats exactly it!!
Good news its not 'chipped' then. Definately appears to be leaking from there tho, but if its a drain, then will just be draining whats in the mounting bolts aperture above.
Making sense now. I think i may have overtightened my crash bungs that fit where the engine mounts were, effectively putting strain on the gasket by 'pulling' the casings apart!
Will clear that out and see if it still 'leaks'
Will try nipping up the casing bolts too (starting with the one directly below!)
If the gasket has blown, still be an expensive repair just for a gasket, as the engine will need dropping & stripping I guess, but that might a bridge that doesnt need crossing!

thanks for the replies guys, very much appreciated!
