Cored and Shortened

I done mine last week

Took 85mm off them and used 2" perf pipe trying to get the noise down a bit but not sure if it worked, there damn loud in my garage :eek

I used a part of the old exhaust as a reducer. The part that the catalyst end pushes onto can be cut out and welded to the perf tube

I also used a large diameter socket to expand the 2 " at the cone end to get it to sit nice on the cone

pls excuse the ******* question but how do you ensure you cut the outer can sleeve nice and square?

I got an expander tool. I'm attempting to try and big up the perf ends of 2" up to 2-5". Probably won't work but hey ho. The satin black are a good length and don't need shortening too much if at all.

Nobs you got a expander, what size minimum maximum. We have got one at work only it starts at 100mmØ ****

Guys,

I remember seeing a walk-through and coring and shortening on the old forum with pics

I've got some never used oem's from fleeeeeeebat and want to core N shorten em, got all the kit ready, perf tube, rivets, drill bits, grinder discs and packing etc....

Just need the measurements to shorten the sleeve, cheers lads

I shortened a damaged Yoshi can on my Gixxer a few years ago, when a opened it up the internals where not as straight forward as i anticipated the engine side was of a triple walled construction and could only be shortened from that end which was a bit of a ******* as it was the other end that was damaged and which I was going to cut so i had to roll a non circular sleeve which was a nightmare.

I used a laser guide, fine tip marker and an angle grinder, cut through slightly off the line on the off cut side so i could just see the marker line after cutting through, then just use a dremmel to even up the cut line also use the dremmel to shave off any nasty bits of metal left.
"Job done"

BannedWolf,
You must have been going some to trash a CBR600, Ive never owned one but i have rode one a couple of times plus, I rode one on the Honda/Haslam track days at Donnington. Probably the most rider friendly planted 600 I've ever rode.

I'm dying to know how you managed to trash it LOL

usually the cans are finished of with a cap or cover rivet band that hide the cut end of the sleeve, A nice pair of Weiss snips Red Handles should cut neat enough

All i did was run a pencil mark round the can after marking a few ref points with a tape and went at it with a hacksaw

2 minutes work and you dont have to be that accurate if you cut it from the cone end as it goes over the sleeve and covers the rough end

This might only be true on the later cone type exhausts

Im also toying with making a baffle out of whats left of the aprilia exhaust inerds to make sure i dont fall foul of noise restrictions at some tracks

Well a VW Polo had an argument with it, he changed his mind wanting to get off a A road onto a slip road then got blocked so swerved back onto the A road I was on slammed his breaks on giving me nowhere to go execpt the onside of it, theres me trying to guide the bike down the centre between the cars but getting the front wheel clipped sending me highside doing 70 cough cough, and the bike cartwheeling down the road evntually hitting the top of a crash barrier.
The front wheel was crushed between the manifold, the tank had been ripped off and the rear subframe was hanging on by one bolt.

A wee bit of a mess it was, and I wasn't much better off..........
