Hi all,

I need some help.

The coolant temp indicator suddently turned on yesterday. I checked the coolant level which is fine. Does this have something to do with the two thermistors one on each side of the engine?

I haven't performed any tests or check yet, just wanted to get a head start.

Any advise or help i greatly apreciated.

Hi Bud,
Check the fans are switching on when getting up to the right temp, if not take the the two connectors out from the thermal switch and bridge them to see if the fans turn on, if they do then its a dodgy thermal switch (i had to replace mine a few weeks back) if they don't come on then it might be the relay.

thanks Chris.

Have some trouble locating the switch. Does it only have one and is it the large brazz thing on the lh side just by the frame?

If it needs replacing is it just to uncrew and replace with no messy liquids or any thing?

Yeah it is the brass nut looking thing on the LH side by the frame on top of the rounded plastic manifold, should have 2 flat blade wires going into the top you can just pull off, bridge the 2 (i connected mine to a rocker switch but a metal blade to connect the 2 should be fine) to make the circuit when the ignition is on and if the fans spin up then its the thermal switch itself.

Thanks guys for your input. yeah the engine must be getting coolant, because the temperature goes up and down during riding. What I dont get is how come the indicator stays on from the point I turn the key and while running. It that right?

Okay, I replaced the Thermal switch - no change. The indicator stays on. Have to say though, I haven't had the engine fired up since the fault first appeared. I bridged the switch and both vents turned on and nearly brew me off the the chair. I also check the impedance of the two thermistors on each side with a ohm-meter. Both are around 2.4kohm when cold -according to the service manual that should be about right, right ? :) Again I haven't checked those at operating temparature. Can anyone tell me if the Temp-indicator in the dash is hooked up to the ecu or if this gets a signal from somewhere else? Also does it make any sense to somehow reset the ecu by unhooking the battery? With that help in any way.

Please, I'd rather not have to send it off to shop so any advise is greatly appresiated.
