Had MOT other day, tester advised me to top up coolant.

Bought some coolant and after letting it cool down after my spin earlier opened the cover. It's right at the top?

Maybe the MOT tester doesn't know about the fact that the indicator is pants and the level was fine.

However, should it be right at the top?

Oh Gen1 btw.

Stix, if it's the rad it should be full, if it's the expansion tank it should be within the marks.

Yes it's way above that just wondered if anyone had any views. Manual says if it's over MAX then itll come out when bike running but it doesn't ??

Stix u shopuldn't be filling up the expansion tank anyway should be filling up the radiator if it needs topping up ;)

Yer put the coolant into the system at the radiator cap not the expansion tank.

But the manual says to top up the expansion?

Referring to pic above, as with most of us couldn't see bugger all through the 'slot' so took the cap off as in pic 2 above, and it was right up by the cap? That's what I was trying to explain in my first post.

As the manual says in the pic, shouldn't be over the MAX mark or it will flow out when running but it doesn't, and all seems fine with temps etc.

Only bothered with it as the MOT tester thought it was a bit low, wish I hadn't bothered now as obviously if anything its far too high!

The weather is stil cold so the water is probably not getting enough pressure behind it to let off steam

Does our rad caps have pressure release bits?

If you have not done the jubilee mod on the crap aprilia hose clips it will probably seep out of them come time

Jubilee mod: all the hose clips to the rad 6/7 of them are best changed asap to jubilee clips, numerous peeps have had puddles on garage floors before they do this

Whered you get that manual stix. Do u have a PDF

Yes matey found a link to it. Bit of a crappy site where you have to click on this and that etc.

Be easier for me to send you it if you like?

Chuck your email address on here or PM it. Its only 9.5Mb.

D, if yer take the rad cap off and it has a springy thingy inside then it's a pressure cap, how else wid the coolant get into the expansion tank. Look at the neck of the rad where the cap fits and there should be a small dia hose that goes to the expansion tank.

Stix, I wis talkin aboot a gen2 mucker, yer machine may be different.

I've had the bike nearly a year and never touched it. Had the bike serviced though end of last summer. Perhaps they topped it up too high as they couldn't see properly on the slot indicator wotsit?

Ah ok Aldo fair enough. Earlier posts confused the piss out of me :)

Nearly right.
If the system has been drained and completly empty, then you shout fill up the rad.The expansion tank is then used for topping up.
On my bike,I removed the placcy cover and used a black felt tip ti highlight the MIN and MAX lines.
STIX,did the MOT man stand the bike upright to check the level?I had one dopey **** tell me my bike was out of oil.:bangheadOf course he looked at it on the sidestand.

I'm not sure Keith, maybe. But then again it's so full it might have looked empty if you know what I mean!! It's so hard to read anyway.

In fact it's so full its impossible to get any more in.

Why not take some out the expansion tank with large syringe and tubing so its at the recommended level then run the bike for a bit and recheck and see if anything has changed?

That's a pretty good idea, but anyone in Bridgend though have a syringe? Can't be arsed to buy one, I'll just keep my on it I think for now. According to the manual the only problem with it being too full is it will come out, so no massive deal really.

STiX, i did exactly the same as you, looked in level in the side window, no coolant. Opened up the expansion tank as per the manual tipped a load in, then realised i was brimming it!!!
Found a long peice of tube and sucked the stuff out, and being thrifty spat it back into the coolant bottle.
