Clutch Slipping

Last ride i out found that the clutch was slipping, but only immediately after changing gear when i did a quick shift hard on the gas. I back off the throttle to stop the slip then get back on the throttle hard and it is o.k.
After checking through previous threads regarding clutch slip i have found that some people have stopped slipping clutch via changing the fluid and bleeding and checking adjustment.
The fluid on my bike is black. I changed it a couple years ago cause it was black, but i just bled it through and kept topping up the resevoir until the black fluid had been bled through.
Would it help if i took off the slave cylinder and gave it a good clean and bled it through using the help from previous threads on how to bleed or do i need to replace/check the clutch plates?
Anyone else had a similar problem?

The fluid goes black quite quickly,my Falco did in a couple hundred miles, bleeding the clutch wont stop it slipping, what oil have you got in the motor, they dont like most fully synthetics ,as it makes the cluch slip,

I had fully synth in mine and its started slipping, as arrybiker said only when changing gear hard on the gas. gone back to semi and its still slipping so gonna have to change plates i think?

Hey up, i am using semi synthetic 15/50, but it's the first time i've used it. Normally used 10/40 semi synthetic so i don't know:dunno
I have stripped the slave cylinder tonight and all looked o.k and put new fluid and bled through.
I will give it a blast tomorrow sometime and see if there is any improvement, but i fear that it's new plates required - doh!:rant

Clean the plates up first before you splash out for new ones, what you got to lose :dunno You can measure the plate pack and springs lengths to see if they've worn out of spec, but if they're ok then a clean-up might be all they need :thumbup

Mine started slipping @ 9000 miles, put a set of EBC plates in, only took 20 min's, plate's were 50 quid from local bike shop, no need for replacement gasket either.

Oh yeh, i forgot about that! Thanks for the advice Sprocker. I'll check the plates and springs first but i don't want that crappy clutch slip returning whilst i'm hammering round the mountains in France:doug
Thats if the verdict from fusebox is good on the tapping noise from the motor.

oo **** did i miss sommat mate??

how are ya :thumbup, sorry dude im dissapearin up my own backside with work at the moment!!

dude it may not be plates causing the issue , as vince says could be oil?? could be springs worn out?? Stick some M6 washers behind the exsisting washers on the springs to pretension them a little more see if this stops it ??

Whats the tappin noise mate??

Griffer!

Griffer!

lincoln at the weekend sir?? Gaz p's run?

Ahhhhhh, Griff:thumbup
Man i knew you'd be busy what with the forum rating you highly.
I'll strip the clutch tomorrow and check the plates and springs and try putting some washers on.
I wasn't sure if the plates are worn as it only slips when changing gear so i thought it may be the slave cylinder or the springs.
The tapping noise - well i noticed it a couple of months ago and it seemed to come from the top end on the front cylinder. It seems to have got a littler noisier recently and i wanted someone's opinion if it's the valves need checking or something else more sinister. I'm on a trip to France in 4 weeks and i don't want it to go pop and i will have the thought of the tap tap tapping on the back of my mind and i don't want it to ruin my trip man.
The bike runs sweet, doesn't smoke or use oil but has had track day abuse.
I've not had the valves checked since i've had it but they were checked about 5 to 6 thou ago.

groover your only in leicester.....pop in and we'll have a listen!!

catchya soon! any worries just call!!

griffer

welcome matey

Hey up Cheesy:thumbup
Thanks for the advice man, i was going to try it last night but due to work and family i didn't get the time:rant
I am going to see the main man Griff tomorrow pm to get him to solve the engine noise i've got and also do some fettling to get it to 'sing':doug so i will leave the clutch till later.
Man i only just joined the forum and i have had some good advice and found a dude to fettle with my pride and joy - should have joined up ages ago.:cheers
My clutch only lets go when i am hard on the gas and quick shifting so i thought that it may be the slave cylinder sticking or the springs. Was yours same?
Have you done the 40 jet mod? Hear that it makes a big difference to hooking neutral.
Oakham eh, cool, maybe catch up for a ride sometime.

Griffer will look after ya

mine was in the high gears up the rev range
yep done the jet mod
also fitted braided hose & radial m/c

aye no probs for a ride

mine slips the same, replaced clutch plates and springs bout 4000 mile ago, put 6mm washers on spings but its still the same, but i think its the engine oil when the temp is hot so am gona try another oil.

Buffalo, what oil are you using? I have just changed from 10/40 to 15/50 semi synthetic but i have been told that this would not cause the clutch slip. I have just ordered new barnett clutch plates and springs so i hope it solves the problem or i will be p***ed.
