Fitted the .40 jet, fitted the barnet clutch and still have massive drag problems, can bearly get into second when cold!!!!!

Fittied the clutch - steel/friction etc, last plate 15degrees offset sitting in shallow fingers, no damage to basket at all!, all shamfers facing inwards. Bike tillted to right side and fully bled with clean fluid no air coming out at all.

What the hell have I gotta do! really stoping me enjoying it at the moment.

Sorry can't be of much help Pete, i've not had any clutch problems but it could be a couple of things. I believe there is a revised thinner clutch plate from barnet as it was found that the barnet clutch pack was too thick causing drag. Does yours have the thinner plate? The other solution is that you haven't bled the clutch properly and there is still air in the slave cylinder. Someone with more knowledge may be able to help but have a read through these

my clutch fluid was going black within a week as well, is this normal? what causes this breaking up of the slave?

Dont know what causes it but mine was black as well.. had it changed over a couple of weeks ago and its fine now :thumbup

Not sure Steve, but these bikes have a habit of the brake and clutch fluids going black in no time at all

The clutch fluid going dark is perfectly normal and does not affect the operation of the clutch in any way. It's just the fluid reacting with the type of seals in the clutch slave cylinder.

Remember hearing of an issue when fitting Barnett clutches and using the Barnett springs.
Recommendation was to use half of the original springs and half Barnett springs.

Eh!

I did notice that the barnet springs were longer.

But surely longer/stronger springs would help it disengage?

it gets a lot better when its warm almost perfect but stay still for any amount of time and it starts to drag again!

Clutch springs.

Hi peteluc, it's the springs that holds the clutch tight so you go forward, to disengadge it's the lever who does it, so the engine still turn at a stop but the bike transmission does'nt. Hope it help's. :thumbup

As above ^^^^^

There is a thread somewhere, think it is on Aprilia Forum, where they recommended using the half / half spring mix.

contacted barnett, and they are sending me a new (modified clutch) common prob apparently only fixed with new design of clutch!
