Could anyone help. The clutch on my 04 R seems fine, other than when I pull it in and put it in gear, I only have to release it a couple of mm and I'm away. Would adjusting the lever make any difference and if so, how do I do it ? Or is there something else I need to do ?
I can engage all the gears without a problem, it's when I pull away.:confused
 
Sounds like a hydraulic problem or air in the system. Have you tried bleeding the clutch? Adjusting the lever probably won't make any difference.
 
I've not bled the clutch. I'm not very mechanicaly minded. Is it hard to do or should I get someone competant to do it ?
 
This is something you are going to want to learn...

Bleeding the clutch is pretty easy to do & makes a big difference. Search this forum for instructions. I'd show you how but I'm a little far away...
 
Adjusting the lever won't make any difference mate, that just sets how far the span is from the grip to your fingers. It will nee bleeding and is something that needs doing fairly regularly.

It's easy to do once you've learnt how and you'll notice a massive difference.

Piece of piss buddy.......get a syringe and some clear vinyl tubing and reverse bleed it form the slave sylinder to the reservoir................even I manage to do it without problem and i'm a **** with home mechanics!!

REMEBER TO BLEED THE MASTER CYLINDER TOO AS AIR DOES GET TRAPPED IN THERE TOO!!!!
 
You can also just bleed the clutch master cylinder next to the clutch lever. This will solve your immediate clutch issue but will not cure the problem.

You'll see a little bleed nipple on the master cylinder itself. Put a towel over any close up bodywork and tank to stop and drops of fluid getting on the bodywork and using the correct spanner crack open the bleed nipple a small amount, then pull in the clutch lever to the bar. Without letting go of clutch lever, tighten the bleed nipple back up, then release the clutch lever. Repeat this process twice more and you should have a fully operation clutch again.

It may not be true but someone will come and correct me I am sure;
From 04 the RSV's had a clutch problem not 100% sure what it was but it did involve bleeding / letting air out of the master cylinder. I only know a little bit because I was talking to a dealer when I was looking for a new bike and he was saying that he had one and would do the mod.
 
Thanks everyone for that. I'm at work tonight, but have got 4 days off after that. I'll set my stall out and see if I can sort my 'bleeding' clutch out!! Do you get it ?
Seriously, I'll let you know how I get on tomorrow and thanks for all the help again.

Not only can I bleed clutches and brakes I make a good cup of tea just ask kiwi it has to be said there seems to be a lack of mille owners in essex.:)

If you are anywhere near Burton, pop in. I've always got a cold beer in the fridge.:thumbup Looking at some of the places of Aprilia owners, there aren't that many in the Midlands. Are we too well paid to be able to afford an aprilia ?:banana
