Clutch - How to bleed a clutch on a 2006-2008 Tuono R ?

Struggling isn't the word.

Cannot bleed the clutch for love nor money, I understand the normal pump and release method is useless with these clutch slaves.

Have tried attaching a syringe full of fluid onto the slave bleeder with plastic piping, with bleed nipple open at the slave no fluid is flowing up to the master cylinder, just a sh*t load of pressure, in fact enough to push the pipe off the nipple and spray dot4 all over the bike and garage.

I am using an oberon clutch slave, there is no way you can push the seal inwards as its so tight!? so that method doesn't work either.

Does anyone know a way of bleeding that actually works?

I'm pulling My hair out over here & if I can't get it sorted I will stick the bike up for sale and go back to reliability of the japs.

Look forward to seeing your replies, if there is a thread that I haven't found please show me the way!

( Found one on Apriliaforum but its for the older style clutch slaves and its basically useless )

If I do anything like this I use my sump oil sucker to pull the fluid through, the problem with bleeding anything on a bike is the pipes all run down hill so making it hard to push the air down hill with the Puney M/cylinder that bikes have

Ring up Aprilia Performance in Tamworth mate and ask the advice of Griff.

If your not comfortable doing it yourself after his advice, then you may have to take it there but everyone on here rates his work.

When you reverse bleed,(the syringe on the slave cylinder) you need to crack open the bleed nipple at the master cylinder (lever) to allow the fluid to feed up to the reservoir.
If you don't have a bleed nipple on the lever, crack open the banjo to get the fluid up there.

I dont wish to piss on Timelord Tifas fireworks but the T aint got a bleed nipple at the lever.(Unless you have one of those bleed banjo bolts fitted)
Also loosening the banjo bolt to aid bleeding is a recipe for disaster.(Just my honest opinion T)At best more air will get sucked into the system,...at worst you will get fluid everywhere. It aint good for your paintwork.
I use the syringe method as a bit of a last resort,...I'm old skool so I use a jam jar 1/4 full of fluid and some clear tubing.Even better if you have one of those easy bleed tubes with a one way valve to stop the fluid syphoning back.
You should be able to bleed the slave cyl with the jam jar method. If the fluid wont shift, you probably have an air lock somewhere.Time to get the syringe out.
I use the syringe on the slave bleed and suck the fluid out,...thats suck, not push.
Keep yer eye on the reservoir level as its as big as a thimble and can empty rather quickly.
Once you are sure all the air is out of the system, close the bleed nipple,....top up the reservoir to the max level,...refit the diaphragm and cap.Oh,dont forget to push back the diaphragm,if it has popped out.
Once you have it all back together, pump the lever a few times and check what it feels like.Check you have a little slack in the lever before you feel any resistance. If you have no slack, then back off the pin adjusting screw a little.(remembering to back off the locking grubscrew first)

You can use a syringe to push the fluid up from the slave,...but I dont use that method on the clutch. When the air bubble goes pop in that tiny reservoir, the ******* fluid can go everywhere,...you dont want that.
Good luck with it.

So convinced was I that there was a bleed nipple at the lever, I've just been out to the shed to check.
**** me....it appears someones nicked me bleed nipple.....:lol

Sorry...KeithB yer absolutely correct fella :yes

Some Brembo master cyls do have a bleeder,...as fitted to most Ducati's.Aprilia are tight,so we get the cheapy version.

I fitted an oberon unit on mine and bled the clutch in the traditional method usinga tube attached to the bleed nipple into a container of fluid and bled as per normal ,it took maybe 10 to 15 mins and many top ups but worked just fine and dandy and have had no issues since.

Glad to hear that you got it done in the end, some methods work better for different people. :kicknuts

Makes the clutch a lot nicer to use and has been spot on since fitting . On the major plus side its gold and very sexy !!:thumbup

Yep not the cheapest but seem good quality ,still seeing as Im pricing up power commander and quick shifter it pails into insignificance !! Getting together some odds and sods of spares etc to have some more track fun !
