hello all

ive been out on my bike today, and a few times its popped out of second, and i keep getting false neutrals!! now my slave is leaking, would this cause me problems?? or would this have the opposite effect and hold it in gear?? i do also generally shift up with out using the clutch?? can't work it out, the bikes in very good shape with only 9,500 miles on the clock!! i've also just topped it up with 15w 30 semi synthetic oil, would this have an effect? im really stumped everyone and i'd be so greatfull for the help!!

oh and just to add, by pure mistake i had over filled the oil!!! sorry, ameture i know, but its the first dry sump bike ive had!! would over filling the bike with oil have an effect on the gear change??

first thing I'd do is sort the slave ,I think "mad biff" got a seal someplace rather than change the whole unit,
any play in yer gear lever?oh and drain some of the oil .

hi mate you can buy them from your aprilia dealer : main seal its £14 an a few pence and £48 for a new slave but i ended up buying the full slave as theres 2 seals in the slave one for your clutch and a smaller one for the clutch push rod but you cant get the smaller one on its own ,but as im a seal and bearing man i will look and see if i can get a size for the small seal im sure i can should be a pound or two or less .

if your clutch is playing up mate and changing gear aint easy it might be your not getting it all the way in to gear and its popping out ,a new slave and a good bleed might fix it .i dont think its a oil issue also i dont recomend changing gear without the clutch i never do it only takes half a second to pull it in and its there for a reason

ive been a gearbox builder for tha last 20 years mate and ive heard other :jackguys:jack say they never use the clutch but im sure all the gears and clutch parts will last much longer if you use it

yipp if your oil is more than 3/4 up the marker tube after a 15 min hard blast up the road drain some out 1/2 to 3/4 is bang on

Mad Biff - Are any 'special' tools required for changing the seal on the Slave? ('99 Mille) Any tips you can give me? I'm planning on changing the seal on mine this evening and don't want any surprises if I can help it? ;)

Regards,

Barra!
