Never had a matt bike before. Any tips to cleaning them??
I`d normally wash, chamois and polish, but guessing polish would be a bad move...?

yeah leave out the polishing part, those wash & wax type bottles are fine though

must confess i am glad my big bike is not matt finish, the rs50 had some matt and some gloss.. it was a nightmare to make it look perfect lol

one hint - make damn sure you have a good chamois, water marks and fluffy bits off the chamois look awful on matt paint

oh yeah im sure you can get some special matt paint polish but it looked pricey so i never even considered it

one more thing.. avoid washing in direct sunlight, unless you are crazy quick with the chamois it will watermark badly by the time you get it all dried

good tips fella :thumbup
Yeah I really werent keen on having a matt bike, looks abit unfinished, but this one has really grown on me. I think it helps that its more a satin matt thank a dead unfinished looking matt that seems more common.

I have a sprayer mate who said he could clearcoat the whole thing and it would come up like a high shine normal paint look for 200quid for me. But like I said its growing on me...

yeah im actually a fan of matt paint finishes on vehicles, i think they look very clean and sharp and most importantly.. more unique metallic/gloss is so common now its hard to be individual lol

for 200 quid you could buy a set of race fairings and spray it yourself?? lol well maybe 200 is pushing it a bit.. but clearcoating it sounds much to expensive for what it achieves

I use a spray bottle (an empty kitchen cleaner bottle cleaned out) with a 5 to 1 water to washing up liquid mix, only use it on the bodywork though as washing up liquid contains salt, the mix is very good at getting dirt/grime and grease /wax out of the rough surface of the matte paint finish, finish off with a lint free soft cloth. works for me and is cheap.

Gordy.

I have the black and white matt rsvr and when I first got it, the dust and dirt would become engrained in the white tank paint, no matter how much polishing, nothing would get the dark patches out, in the end I venture shielded the sides of the tank in clear invisible plastic where my knees rubbed.

Solved the issue, now it's always cleanable and mint, I did think about having the tank clear coated, really did nark me that the paint is so porous and prone to absorbing dirt.

Hope this helps.

Yeah I can imagine that would annoy anyone!, luckily mines black so doesnt seem as bad!

Mr Sheen shines umpteen things clean! Works a treat on mine, great on the wheels too.

Yeh but RSVStupid, yours looks shiney!! lol

So to recap, wash and chamois as usual, then... What mr sheen do you use Fogg? got a pic of the results? Actually maybe a few peeps could post pics after a clean, what you used, and the resulting finish?

Maybe a pic of the tank and seat hump or front cowl to compare?

Thats coz i polished it to death and turned matt kinda shiney ish?! LOL like to be differant and go against the grain, if i didn't i would ride a big fat GS with stupid boxes on the side and be boring!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (and a ****)
