Hi all,

New Aprilia owner here with probably a schoolboy question. So at the risk of sounding completely stupid. Where is the choke/fast idle switch/lever? The only place I can see where one might be fitted is on the lhs switchgear, but I have a blanking plate on there. Am I missing something here? Bike won't tick over when cold. I'm gonna get TB's balanced and CO checked in the very near future to hopefully smooth things out a bit lower down the rev range and aid starting but for now I'd just like to not have to hold the throttle on slightly manually (if that makes sense).

Looking through the bikes history I can see it has had replacement switchgear but surely they would've replaced like for like and put everything back where it should be?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Steve

Yeah, I definitely DON't have one of them fitted to my bike. A**e! I wonder why anyone would remove that?

Is there a workshop manual download that shows you how to fit the fast idle switch anywhere, or is it pretty self explanatory when you physically have one in your possession?

Edit : Just bought that one at the link, thanks for that. Will have to figure it out when it arrives! :)

Cheers

Don't worry it aint rocket science, the lever has 2 small screws which connect to the clutch master cylinder & if you lift the tank & remove the airbox you will see the throttle mechanism with the two cables, you should also see another cable holder where the fast idle cable goes, connect it up & adjust so the lever opens the butterfly's until they hit a stop on the mechanism.

I have just looked at the pictures of your bike and you have got radial master cylinders, so there is nothing to fix the fast idle lever to.
Also you have got later 04 on switch gear, so you can't turn your lights off nothings is blanked thats how they are.
I would be tempted to lift the tank and look at the throttle boddies to see if 57s have been fitted if so there is nothing to connect the cable to.
Also as its has got twin cans and some gen2 bits have a look to so if its running a gen 1 or gen 2 engine
Finally the mirror base plates go under the fairing not on top, always pisses me off everytime I see that

Hi Nick,

Thanks for that. So the part I've ordered I won't be able to fit anyway then? haha Typical! I did lift the tank and saw I have an aftermarket filter & it looks like the air box mod has been done. The air box is carbon fibre and the trumpets on the TB's are to. Didn't see the size of the TB's, but remember thinking they are quite large though. I just assumed being a twin it would have larger trumpets than an IL4. Is the size stamped somewhere on them? Also the engine is there an easy way to tell if it's a gen 1 or 2?

Seems the further I dig into the bike the more work seems to have been done to it. I'm definitely starting to think it's an ex race bike. If it is though it's had an easy life as there are no marks on the frame. There is a small one on the swing arm.

As for the mirror base plates I know exactly what you mean. I've been looking at them thinking it doesn't look right that, but not had the chance to investigate much over Easter. They will be coming off and fitted properly tomorrow as soon as I get in the garage.

Forecast is rain tomorrow, but hoping for a dry morning so I can get out for my first ride on her. Been itching to get out over Easter but birthdays and family commitments have stopped me. Been sunny all over the break to!

Cheers
