Chattering from under tank... normal?

Hi folks.
Well, this is my first four stroke as well as my first big twin, so I'm honestly not sure whether I'm right to be "aware" of this or not.

When riding the Mille, in addition to the wonderful sound from the exhaust and airbox, I'm also getting a sort of mechanical chattering noise under the tank that increases/decreases in line with engine speed. In my mind's eye I picture valves going up and down at a rather high rate, and I know that some bikes can be incredibly "mechanically" noisy. But my RS250 didn't have any of this sort of noise. It's not very loud but loud enough to be noticeable.

Is this something you just get from a big 4 stroke?

Could be the valve clearances, depends how loud your exhaust is :dunno A quiet engine on these means your valve clearances are too tight.

I wondered if it was the valves :). The noise is "noticeable" but not loud. On any bike that wasn't mine I'd put it down to "the sound of the engine doing its thing".

Or it could be cam chain tensioner/s , valve clearances would have to be hugely out to make that much noise.
