Went to adjust the chain for the first time today, opened the tool kit and no spanner to undo the spindle :rant:dowhat

Trip to Halfords to get a 32mm socket and was admiring their 150 bit prof socket set. Manager turns up and says if he knocked it down to £100 would I buy it?

Guess what I now the owner of :devious

Blood expensive socket!!!!

That manager was a good salesman by the sounds :D in for 1 socket and out with 150 pieces rofl..well matey, good tools are always necessary. Sounds like you got a fair bargain tho. :thumbup

Sounds like the set I bought earlier this year, they were on offer for £100 then as well, down from £150. Bloody good investment, can't beat the feel of using good quality tools. Had a problem with a couple of the smaller items, took them back and instant replacement without any questions, as the Professional Series Guarantee states they will do!

Just to jump in on the thread.

What slack do you guys use on your chain??

I have heard 2 inches and ive heard 2cm on the Milles, Too much causing gear changing clunks and too little causes premature wear, so whats the best.

about 25mm or 1 inch total movement up and down in the centre of the lower chain run

I run the same 25mm..it seems to be the quietest and feels the best around that. :thumbup

Same here, but spin the wheel and check at the tightest part of the chain, you might have some tightspots. I checked mine the other day and i'm now in the process of getting a new one...

Since we're talking chains, anyone have any personal pointers on how they lubricate theirs? I picked up a can of Repsol chain oil and was gonna give it a good soaking. I don't have a rear stand so I just spray the top exposed section of chain, roll the bike ahead a bit and repeat. Seems simple enough but just wondering if anyone has anything differant they do. How about cleaning it first?

I bought some parrafin from a local shell garage to clean mine :thumbup about £5 i think it was, and will last ages
