Cartagena Nov 09

A

A303

Just back from three days on track at Cartagena with Focused.
Booked in for a day's tuition with Plater on the first day but this got cut short as Solstice managed to highside himself into the casualty department of Cartagena General. Couldn't leave the bugger to his own devices with heavy concussion and no Spanish so I ended up going with him in the ambulance, missing the afternoon session with Steve.
Still, did get some useful stuff from him in the morning session and he took me round in the car the next day to show me his reference points, which was very useful.
Worked on those and managed to reduce my lap times by a significant amount over last year so I'm happy. Bike went like a train and sounded great with the Leo Vince on - which was fine once I'd managed to stop it scraping the swing arm protectors. Slight clutch slip at the end of the straight but didn't feel the need (couldn't be arsed, more like) to fit the new clutch - which I'd brought through as hand luggage and earned me a full bag search at Gatwick.
Generally a good time had by all.
Sure Solstice will be along with his own details soon.

Awesome Si, glad you had a good time mate, whats the score with Solstice then?
You booked to go next year then.

Looking good there Mr 303 sir. Sounds like you had a lot of fun :thumbup

How is Solstice doing after the highside?

Thanks lads.
Not sure of the exact temp Sergi - all we had was English TV in the apartment complex we stayed in! But T-shirt weather during the day and just a thin fleece needed at night. Blue skies most of the time. Lovely.
Gareth is not too bad - walking wounded and he came out of hospital the next day. Once his head cleared he felt better but still very tender. We think he face planted the rumble strip and then must have flipped onto his back as his Knox back protector is smacked up as well as his lid. Bike's not too bad - big up to the R&Gs for that one.
Couple of good pics, mostly same as last year though. Really resented having to pay 40 Euros instead of £30 because the photography bloke didn't want the hassle of taking Euros:jack but I didn't have enough English on me.
By the way, first session with Plater, he put his head in his hands when we said we were all California Superbike School trained and said we had to turn the bike with footpeg pressure instead of counter-steering! Sure he knows what he's doing but took a great leap of faith to abandon the old turn-point-and-shoot technique and take on board his fearsomely early turn-in points:eek: Ended up quite a bit faster and smoother as a result -especially using his reference points around the track. Like he says, 'it's just join the dots'.

PS. We did some video of us going around - when it gets copied I'll post some up - that is after I edit it so the wife doesn't see me having a ciggie!

Looks like you had fun, its nice to see the mille where is meant to be, not just on the rsv of the month :D

O by the way, how much does a trip to Cartagena cost? And how rough is the track to tyres?

It's bloody expensive if you only manage the first morning!

Our trip was organised by a UK firm called Focused Events, they ship the bikes and all your kit out, which came to £399 including accommodation. There were a few Spanish guys riding so they must do just track time as well, give them a call.

Tyre wear didn't seem to be too much of a problem for the other guys.

I'm going out to Cartagena wih FE in March, how much does the car hire cost? for the whole trip?

Can't remember exactly - about a ton for the week? Gareth? I've got the figures at work so when I finally get back in there (snowed in at home right now - shame:thumbup) I'll let you know.
We also found an track day alternative insurance supplier for about £25. Let me know if you want the details.

Yes please! Want to spend as little as possible on this trip, that would be great fella, as the FE company charged something like 40 quid?

Thanks mate:thumbup

V, I'll give you details when I get into work 'cos it's on my work PC.

OK V, Car hire cost us £166.48 all-in but we did have to have it an extra day - thanks to SleasyJet cancelling our flight.
Insurance was with these guys - not sure if you can buy from them direct or whether you have to go through a broker - drop them an email. The policy you want is called 'Adventures' and cost us £25.50 each. Focused OKed it up front. Hope this helps.

Car hire was abit pricey no? who was that with? was it concord car hire?

I went to Cartagena in Jan 09 and loved it, but I just couldn't afford to do it again.

I think I paid about £550 for three days inc car hire, flights, accomodation and track time.

Add £360 for two pairs of tyres
£40 for parking at Luton
£How much? for petrol
£40 travel insurance
£photos + video
£food + drink

And we're talking about £1300...

Wish I was rich like you lot!

Thats when I went, Jan 09, I was going to do a few in the UK but they were getting booked well in advance with the weather looking dodgy, saved my pennies to do this trip again.
