My cans (Leo Vincis) been on over 2 years and 22k miles..Just recently I've noticed that they're becoming a bit LOUD..Friends say they can here my bike 2 miles away:eek:
The final straw was a neighbours dog putting its tail between its legs and cowering down when I started bike up..

So..I've been ringing around, trying to find a dealer who would re pack them..A small exhaust manufacturer in Bradford (Zorstec) says he'll do it, so popping them down in the morning and hopefully have them back to a nice twin rumble..The standard ones far too quiet, all you can hear is the rattle of chains and threshing inside the engine.. (Nothing wrong, just the noisy Rotax lump)

Repacking is easy if you have a couple of hours, a drill and a rivet gun. I bought my riveter off ebay for about £10 with 100 rivets, packing was about £20.

Try and use blind stainless rivets if you can otherwise normal rivets will let water in and gases out.

Use the highest temp rating packing you can get. Arrow, Akra etc rate theirs for the rsv at 1000 degress +. It gets very hot.
Wrap is better than loose stuff as you can get it really tight around the baffle which as well as lasting longer and being quieter will make better power.

Lastly if you remove the end caps reseal them with high temp silicone otherwise you will probably get leakage again.

If you have carbon cans knackered packing will destroy the carbon sleeve. My Leo Vinci can on a 2000 bike collapsed after 4k for that reason. Never noticed the hot spot and it was always loud.

Getting them done in Shipley by an exhaust manufacturer..For the cost.. £20 per can and how many years/miles between doing, plus only down the road, there's not much point in DIY..
The ECILOP are getting a bit keen on loud cans at the mo, at least mine doesn't have 'Not for road use' stamped on them.
