How come this dealer is offer brand new 03 bikes on an 08 plate. Whats the score here then?

Must be just old bikes that were never sold thus never registered so in reality are brand new albiet manufactured 5 years ago,,,if that makes sence, well i know what i mean....:devious :biggrin

Yes very common practice, the date of first reg is NOT a guarantee of the bikes age.....

Happens all the time with cars as well, provided you know its a great way of saving a fortune

Carpe is right Dan. When I was after my old Bimota SB8R a few years back, DK had a secondhand one advertised and when I called I was informed they also had a brand spanking new one never registered still sat in the crate which had never been built up. So, for a few hundred more I became the grinning owner of a 52 registered SB8R at a time when Bimota had stopped all production a year or two earlier.

Some bikes get pre-registered by places, others keep them sat in an un built state until they find a purchaser and so don't get registered until a few years after their manufacture date. The point is, the plate is issued on registration, not manufacture. I think the DK salesman had a field day when we came off of the phone, the Bimota had become a running joke that they never thought they'd sell :biggrin

Just 5 years seems a long time to be sat on an unregistered bike in your showroom.

thats why its always good to know the changes in bikes development and what year thet happened.
loads of 02 r1's advertised that are actually 00 models

should be illegal to mislead like that

Which is why you need to go by model designation and not year of registration gentlemen :thumbup

can happen with bikes that go from crate to track then they sell them for the road so registered later on
