Carpe is right Dan. When I was after my old Bimota SB8R a few years back, DK had a secondhand one advertised and when I called I was informed they also had a brand spanking new one never registered still sat in the crate which had never been built up. So, for a few hundred more I became the grinning owner of a 52 registered SB8R at a time when Bimota had stopped all production a year or two earlier.
Some bikes get pre-registered by places, others keep them sat in an un built state until they find a purchaser and so don't get registered until a few years after their manufacture date. The point is, the plate is issued on registration, not manufacture. I think the DK salesman had a field day when we came off of the phone, the Bimota had become a running joke that they never thought they'd sell :biggrin
