I have read alot about removing the round/square air intake restrictor from inside the air box to increase the flow of air to the bike, I am confused by this as the volume of air is determined IMO by the speed you are doing, and importantly initial size of the air intake ie the square area of the intake under the headlight on my gen 2.

Surely their is no point in increasing the size of the intake down stream in the air box to a square area that is greater than the square area of the intake under the light.

Think of a funnel pointy end facing into the wind, there is only so much that can go in the small end regardless of the size of the big end.

Am I right or am I right.:dunno
 
Yep.
I took the airbox restrictor out of my bike,...fooked if I can tell any differeance.
 
glad thats settled then , i wont be removing mine either
i did look into the physics of this and could see no point in removing it !!
 
A popular tuning mod on cars (for improved torque) is to extend the intake with a tube instead of having the filter attached directly to the carb.

I think they do a similar mod with extended mounds between cylinder head & carb.

C.S, using your powers of deduction, how does this work ? Some sort of ram air effect ?
 
Placing the filter on the end of a tube moves it away from the heat off the engine. The tube helps optimise air flow (less turbulance) and if you can get it near an external air vent to allow direct / cold air then even better...... alledgedly.
Supossed to increase torque and ponnies too....

Ye your right some mods/parts are just not worth taking out. Took the front wheel out of mine last week, never noticed any difference to the handing, mind you was a ******* to put on the side stand
