Tuono broke down on the first day of my holiday in Scotland last June. So pissed off I went and bought a KTM 990 Adventure to get me through the summer. Only now have I decided to open it up to confirm what I suspected.....a third burnt stator in less than two years.
The first time, the bike was six years old. Had stator rewound and replaced reg/rec with a genuine Aprilia item. Second time it was spotted when bike was in having a new sprag gear fitted. Mechanic couldn't find a fault, but bypassed the loom as a precaution. Credit to West Country Windings who rewound it again for the cost of p&p only And now a third time ffs.
Any ideas chaps? Read some where that a guy had a similar problem that was traced to a broken earth wire between engine and frame. Where is that on a Gen 2 ? Could it be the replacement reg/rec is duff. I'm determined to find some thing. Whether I keep it afterwards is another matter.
