hi all, kinda non mille related thread but thought it cant hurt to ask you guys. my winter hack is a yamaha xt350 dirtbike and the dreaded mot is due in a month. kind of a problem on an f reg bike that sits in the rain all year uncovered, then i pull it out when the snow and ice and serious bad weather hit and run it into the ground. i have found a huge crack in the rear wheel and have managed to source a replacement that i should be able to make fit. only thing is i have to swap the rear hub and brake drum and all the spokes over. this in itself doesnt pose me a problem, ensuring the hub/drum assembly is central im guessing isnt an easy job. just wondered if any of you guys know any tricks or tips or have any experience of building one up. cheers

tried it once many years ago, never again, get a pro to do it,or buy another wheel from some random auction site...

it's really not that hard, it's just time consuming, If you're just going to undo spokes from buggered rim and leave them insitu and transfer to new rim then you won't have any lacing issue's. If you're replacing spokes as well then take a photo of each side of the wheel and use it as a reference :thumbup Centering the hub or needing to offset is basically slowly slowly catchy monkey ;) just work your way around slowly pinching up each spoke - make yourself a wheel balancer (well more of a frame that you can spin the rim on whilst pinching up) or put it back on the bike and use a padock stand.

Deacs :thumbup

yeh unfortunately i need to swap the spokes aswell as mine has drum brake, the donor wheel hasnt so the spokes are to long to get my drum in. lots of wd40 needed for the next few wks i reckon. so if i just treat it as a wheel balance that should do the trick?

are the drum brake spokes the same length as a disc brake hub? just a thought

build the wheel if its a straight swap then hand it over to a wheel builder just to true it up..you've done the labour intensive bit so shouldn't be too much

failing that sell it to me cheap so i can build a flat tracker ,,lol
