hey guys i done the brown connector mod today also added an extra earth wire. the thing is there was no differance in voltage reading at all im gettin 13.7-.8 on tick over with no lights on and 13.4ish with lights on and drops down to under 13 volts at 4rpm? did i do something wrong?

also when i turn on ignition now i only have 11.6 volts and when the bike fires up it brings it up to 13.8 again

you need to add the extra power wire for a noticeable difference
if that reading is off the clocks its not too bad .

what ya getting off the battery with a meter? best guide to charging volts

have no volt meter at moment so cant check that till tomorow evening. also what is the extra power wire?

As lonner said I get about 0.4 to 0.6v lower reading on the clocks than at the battery with a multimeter!!! its probably the resistace in the wiring as before it gets to the dash!!!!
Check the readings at your battery m8 you could well have more voltage going through..................but as lonner said just doing the brown plug is the actual feed from the windings to the rectifier.................you need to get as much of that converted current to the battery as you can hence the extra cables (did mine rectifier side of the white plug for least resistance) to the positive and negative terminals of the battery:thumbup

Is there any tutorial on how to do the white plug mod ,?

Here is the diagram I did mine from works a treat:thumbup

Join each of the 2 wires to a single ring connector of suitable size for the cables and battery m6 bolt!!

If ur unsure check my posts ....I think it was under brown plug mod but I put up loads of pics and running commentary.............:biggrin

how do i connect the wires to the white connector wires? im a complete novice at wiring

Here you go bud read through this loads of pics and info when I did it recently.........
http://rsvzone.com/forums/showthread.php?17842-Brown-Plug-in-good-nick-shall-I-chop-it-out

If you can't solder I would recommend either getting some1 to do it for you or use very good crimp connectors (DO NOT USE SCOTCHLOCKS) very unreliable ...........you have been warned ......as this is the charging circuit make sure you insulate at least the positive side of any terminal very well and make sure your connections are secure............

Is there any reason why I'm showing on 11.4ish volts when ignition is switched on ? Yet when I start bike it goes to 13.8! Before I took out the brown connector I was getting 13.5 with just ignition switched on

without knowing what how you have done with the brown plug mod or any pics it is hard to tell...........what voltage was your bike reading before you did the mod on tickover???
How did you join the 3 yellow feed wires from the generator??

basically chopped out the brown plug and solder the 3 yellow wires that was it. i was getting 13.6 on tickover before mod

I would do the extra 4 wires from rectifier side of the white plug mine read at dash on tickover around 13.5 (mebe less can't really remember now) before mods with no lights.......... now reads 14v with lights off and 13.9 with dipped on tickover from dash readout think it was around 14.1-14.3 at the battery on a multimeter

Will give it a go during the week and see how it turns out, hopefully all will go well , the bike was perfect with no charging r starting issues I only went at it to prevent something happening in the future

its showing that as the engine isn't running so that's the draw on the battery as no generated power to support it.

the battery will go flat in a short while and hence the need for the generator .

if your getting 13.5 at the dash your ok bud as that will keep the battery charged while riding .

id not worry to much

The only reason people have been cutting the brown connector out of the loom is because it can corrode then heat up and melt, possibly leaving you stranded.

Completed brown and white plug mod , getting 14-14.1 on multimeter at the battery terminals with full headlight on , and around 13.9 with lights off I woulda taught that it should of being the other way round

My bike shows same 14.1 or 2 volts with lights off or on so I wouldn't worry too much its a heck of a lot better than pre-modded readings though job well done sir:thumbup

Cheers fella yes I'm happy with the results , I was a bit apprehensive about chopping and soldering as I've never done it before , and the fact the bike was running sweet it was a hard call , but I'm glad I did it now
