Took the bike out for a good thrash today. Making my way home late afternoon near Bath and opened her up to overtake a car and suddenly no power and wouldn't rev :dunno Pulled over to the side of the road and found the throttle had gone. Middle of nowhere and had forgotten my mobile :jack Started pushing it back to civilisation about a mile up the road when a car driver pulled over and asked if he could assist! Lent me his mobile so rang home to get someone to call the AA for me but no answer (later found out that my 20 yr old son was home but didn't like to answer the phone as it said witheld number - we had words about that!). Managed to ride the bike with the engine just ticking over to a hotel where I managed to ring the AA. A very helpful guy arrived 20 minutes later and started taking the bike apart, fuel tank and airbox off as he thought he could replace the broken cable with some spare cable that he was carrying but it was too thick. So put it all back together and called for a flat bed truck to take me home which arrived after 30 minutes. Quite impressed with the service but not the best way to end a ride.
I took out a warranty when I bought the bike last year but of course reading the terms and conditions, control cables aren't covered. Anyway my question is, do I arrange for the bike to be recovered to my nearest dealer 30 miles away or do I change the cables myself? It doesn't seem too taxing but is the adjustment of the cables critical? Any comments would be welcome.
