riding home tonight I could smell petrol really bad. stuck in a bit of traffic and then I could smell even worse.

Pulled over to see petrol dripping down from the bottom of the tank.

Now im home, I've took the tank off the bike and it seems the petrol is coming from the fuel sensor area.
Cant tell if its leaking from the wires i.e. its shot or from where its bolted on.

Any good way of testing it? anything at Halfords I can buy now to bodge it till I buy the bit I need?

I've 35 minutes till Halfords shuts then im stuffed as No way of getting to work tomorrow.....:thumbup

what do you think then guys :)

plastic or metal tank ?

plastic ones warp around the fuel pump flange (well known)

you can bodge it with some fuel tolerant sealant

plastic buddy!

best get down to halfords then lol, cheers fella

Mate, don't bodge it please!

If fuel leaks on to that rear header whilst your riding or gets on to your rear tyre the consequences could be disastrous.

I understand that this may be your only mode of transport but please take care in what you do.

Dont panic Al,I am sure that the thought of Garvey's privates going up in smoke at 90mph will allow him to perform a "proper and fitting bodge job"

BTW

I still havnt fixed my tank , its fun have fuel pissing out all over the place ............:devious

well, Halfords had nothing suitable! gonna have a closer look at the tank now and see whats what.

Not sure where the leak if coming from as my garage is covered in the stuff. Glad I gave up smoking :devious

wish me luck

ok i've checked it over and its the tank. the of you stand the tank on its end with the fuel pump in the air, the leak is coming from between the fuel pump and the tank between the 2 top bolts. the plastic between the bolts dont seem to touch the pump flush.
If I give the tank a little shake, you can hear the air escaping.

Im guessing my only option is a new tank? if you know of a trick to fix this, then im all ears.

i had the same problem with mine seems like the tanks warps, built mine up with some fuel tank filler, ( so it wont react) sanded flat resealed the fuel pump and job done, been like it for about a year now and no more leaks

Yeah we do a petrol tank repair kit, its the borrox and comes in at around £2.50 , need to leave it dry (no fuel) overnight, sand back til its fits and jobs a carrot, no flaming balls :spit

Anyone want some free fuel. filled up this mornig with fuel and only done 20 miles :lol but then again the amount of fuel across the bike and the floor of my garage might not have any left :lol

Yeah just reading about the Quik Steel Plastic Tank kit, sounds like the kiddy. think Alan used this on his tank. just trying to find a local place I can get my hands on some tomorrow from!

:lol cheers fella, well I know of 2 within walking distance so fingers crossed.

after calling around tunns of shops today I managed to get hold of some petrol proof gasket sealant, something blue!

so far its sort or worked, just taken it apart again now to clean and re-do. the petrol has sripped down the cap, over the 2 stickers (both buggered), I stink of petrol, the tank is still leaking and I havent even had my tea!

Its an expensive taxi in the morning if I dont get this sorted tonight :) I have the faith :)

Garvs, if you get stuck mate i`ll lob one in the post for ya tomoro so you should get Thurs depending on royal mail. How ya gettin on?
Try giving the stuff you`ve got a bit longer to set. Grab yourself some t and a brew

hey buddy, not to bad I think. its all back together and no signs YET of it leaking from the same point but then again I have lost about half a tank of fuel so we will see tomorrow for he trip to work.

Lost both of the tank stickers from the leakage whist I had it stood up on its end. gonna have to get theses replaced if the tank works. If not then I go my eye on a battered black tank on ebay that ends in a couple of days, cheapest yellow tank I found is for 125 quid!

New update tomorrow on my trip to work we hope (Fire brigade standby) still love the old gal, bless her :)

Well its got me to work! so far so good, see what shes like tonight. will it be the AA or the Ride :)

All else fails, I have a matt black 02 tank gathering dust in the garage if you want to go down that route. Won't cost the earth as it's not in the greatest nick.
