Braided Front Brake Hoses?

Hi guys, I'm going to fit braided hoses to my 2003 model Mille over xmas to try and cure the rather 'iffy' front brake I have.

I think it has an air leak and the forum recommended replacing the copper washers on the banjos and wrapping the threads in ptfe tape.

Well, i thought I may as well replace the hoses too.

My questions are:

1.) Which brand? I fancy either Goodridge or Hel

2.) Is there any performance difference between standard hoses which spilt at the mudguard and race hoses that spilt at the top?

Cheers!

jon

i've always used hel but i'm sure they are as good as each other pal....not sure about the performance difference as i'd have to try both back to back

All the known brands are good stuff. I've used Venhill also with good results.

Not aware of any performance benefit of the higher split compared to lower.
Just gives a cleaner setup at the calipers i guess.

In the past I've used Goodridge and Hel but I think Venhill will be my first choice in the future. There's more flexibilty in fitting them and I think they look better! :thumbup

I used Hel on my ZX-6R because they were a) cheaper than Goodridge and b) came with black unions.

Cheers chaps. I'm going to get Goodridge as I picked up a 15% off voucher at the NEC the other week- 15% discount on all orders before 24th December.

I'm going to get a front brake and clutch hose to hopefully improve the function of both.

Also need to get one of those pesky MPL clutch slave cylinders too....
..where do you get those from?

I've tried Googling but I don't speak ze German!

race hoses don't split. You have 2 independent lines so if one breaks you still have one to brake with!

You have 1 master cylinder for both front calipers. Both lines are connected using only 1 banjo bolt and cannot work independently - if one line fails youre still in the **** :pirate

i stand corrected. Should think before i speak.
They do insist that you have 2 seperate lines for racing though don't they? Or am i twice wrong?

Silly question....

These don't already have braided hoses as standard, do they?

(I know some of the Ducati's with Brembos from the same era do...)

mine came with braided hoses. If they don't come out of the factory with them, i'd bet most still have had them added. Not sure what original spec was.

I did have a look at mine t'other night and they did appear braided...

So am I just throwing £100 away for something I don't need?

Please tell me that they'll be a performance gain for these Goodridge hoses?
(Also, 15% discount if you say you got a voucher at the NEC, ref NEC2009)

Thanks for that- I'll take it entirely at face value and not read any more into it...

(Shocking spelling in my last post- "they'll" rather than "there'll".... school boy error!)

even if they are there may be a gain. If they aren't braided they'll be rubber. If they aren't rubber they are braided. May i recommend putting bleed nipples next to the master cylinders if you haven't already thought of that. Coated lines are good too as they chafe less on bodywork and stuff.

Hi mate I sell both Hell and Goodridge the goodridge is quite good because they are a build a line ie you chose your fittings and length/colour of line and put ends on your self (just screw together) they are about same price as the Hell ones both same quality
