Bleeding the Rear Brake

So folks I decide to follow the how to on bleeding the rear brake, can it be done as a 1 man job, I can't see how now the calpiper is upside down with the bleed nipple at the top, how can I crack the nipple and pump the peddle at the same time, I ould like to do it myself as I have always relied on others in the past to help me out, but some sound advice from you guys would not go amiss

OK this is what i did,
1) Loosen the bleed nipple 11mm with the caliper in place and re-tighten it slightly.
2) Clip the cable tie holding the speed sensor to the brake line.
3) Remove the caliper mounting bolts
4) Put a small piece of wood between the pads and push the pistons back in.
5) Remove the resevoir bolt and take the cap and seal off
6) Put the resevoir back on loose so you can pull it out a bit to fill
7) If you have a garage :devious i used a bungie cord from the roof cross beam to the mounting hole in the caliper and this pulled it up higher than the master cylinder. This made it easy :thumbup
8) Top up resevoir, open bleed nipple and start to pump/ close nipple.
9) Pull through 3-4 resevoir fills and hold down the brake on the last push and tighten the nipple. A couple of pumps and you will have loads of power :thumbup
10) Don't overfill the resevoir.
11) Re-fit caliper and smile :biggrin:doug

thanks, hat is roughly what I am trying but you need to be an octopus to hold the caliper, pump the brake and have the correct co-ordination

The bungie cord needs to be really tight and is the third hand :roll mine was really stable and the bleed nipple only needs to be 1/8th turn then tighten fully with the caliper back on the mounting bracket.
Maybe i'm just lucky but even with 1/2 worn pads the rear brake is as good as any other bike i've owned :dunno

who needs a back brake when u have a kickass front brake... just say cause i dont use my back brake after it locked up and started melting my speed sensor.... was even thinking of taking the back brake off... :devious

Ahh the perenial " I dont need my back brake" comment:devious:devious:eatcorn:eatcorn. I wondered how long it would be before it showed up.:pirate

This is why you need a good rear. I do this on my Mille from time to time. Cut the guy some slack.....hes an American and cant help himself...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMgU44UwByY Im off to ride now.

number one , im not an american,,, that would be like me telling u are a german..

two... things in that video can be done just with your clutch... the only thing rear brake is really good for is if u are on dirt or gravel roads... everything else i use engine braking and front brake.... :nana

I've got to admit my back is shot but I like to use it, I'm not a riding instructor or anything but I feel a lot more in control coming up to junctions and roundabouts with a bit of back brake, especially if I'm two up(not very often). Do they have junctions or roundabouts in Canada LOL

ya they have round abouts... their way better then stop signs.. they are being used more and more around here.... i dont really brake for them. just gear down and drop the knee... kind of like going around and shooting out of them..

ive had inline fours crash behind me cause with the twin u can engine brake and it ****'s them up big time... plus the rsv can rip out of the corners..:doug

nice one, gotta try that... that's when i do miss the back brake... now i just hold the front brake or clutch it so the engine holds the bike in place... i do have pazzo levers witch makes anything with the clutch easyer... plus u don't have to bleed the clutch as much with pazzo's,, just click it up one and your good... i bleed it out when i have it on 4 with 2 more to spare:thumbup

First off( Dont you just love the *******isation of the Queens English?) I was refering to the chap in the vid not you.

Second off( if there is such a thing) the vid adequately demonstrates the value of the back brake and the CONTROL it can bring. Engineers dont just put it on because it looks "purty".

Send in a vid of you doing a tight, feet up U turn in a tight space using only the clutch and engine braking. Id love to see it.

As for your mates running into the back of you when you throttle off, then I guess they need to open their eyes . Wouldnt you say?

Hey , we all ride as we see fit.
I just like to be in control.:pirate

I can't seem to get any compression in my pedal, I will persevere with the bleeding but I hate maintenance
