Bike won't start...

I hate posting in here asking for help because I'd rather be the person helping if I can, but since I don't have the experience I come to this vast amount of knowledge.
So my bike has been riding fine, even though every now and then it stops and makes a psst sound( kind of like a turbo), but other than that I haven't noticed anything.
I left it sitting for about 3 weeks, come back and take it for a short ride to pay a parking ticket, start it up and go to the bank (10 minutes total) bike road fine all the way.
I tried to start it at the bank and it just makes a clicking sound ( I think the batter, same sound always makes when trying to start) and doesn't turn over to start, followed up by hearing the fuel pump after the clicking. So minus the not starting every sound, sounds normal.
There is no service sign so I can't look up the code. Is it worth it to pay out the *** and take it in? Because I prefer to fix it myself.

Thank you guys for all your help!

Loose battery lead ?
Dodgy starter relay ?
Starter button ?
Knackered battery, how old is it, how old is the bike ?

Get your self a meter and see what's going on to trace the fault.

They are not expensive, they are really handy for all sorts of problems.

It's not rocket science and you will probably learn a lot.

I'm assuming a battery meter? I don't know how old the battery is, but the bike is 07 and I'm not sure if the battery has been replaced since.

I was assuming it wasn't the battery if the display still lights up when I turn it on, but I know the started takes way more energy than that.
