Bike will not crank, fuel primes but nothing happens

So I went out to my bike today to take it to work and inserted the key and went to turn it over. I pressed the starter button and nothing happened, but then I noticed the kill switch was on. I released that and heard the fuel pump prime and pushed the starter again. At that point a count hear a faint high pitched noise every time I pushed the starter button, but the motor would not try to turn over whatsoever. I've had had it not start before due to a low battery, but this is not the case, the battery is new and fully charge.

So basically:

1. Fuel pump primes
2. Every time the starter button is pressed a hear a faint but higher pitched wine/noise (maybe the injectors shooting fuel into the cylinders)
3. Once the starter button is pressed the engine/starter itself makes no attempt whatsoever to turn over/crank

Has anyone ever had a similar condition? I haven't checked fuses or relays yet, but where would be a good place to start.

Thanks in advance.

Yea I'm thinking of checking the sidestand. The clutch switch I don't know if would effect this because the bike is in neutral when I start it. I've never had to pull in the clutch.

I would replace the starter relay the aprilia ones are notorisly bad. Most ppl change it for this one: YAMAHA part # 4KD-81-940-00.

I had similar issue and replaced battery and relay for the yahama one it worked a treat. You should find one on ebay

Under the seat you will find the starter solinoid get a screw driver and arch it across the two terminals if it fires up thats your problem

Well I got it fired up when I got home from work almost immediately. I let a friend take it for a spin a few days before and he shut it down in gear... :p
I had never done this myself and so I thought the worst. When I put up the kickstand and held in the clutch lever and started it, it started to lurch forward so I knew right away what it was.
Thanks for the support guys, I kinda feel like a ******* to be honest.

I wouldnt worry about i am sure we have all been there looking at our bikes scratching head, wondering why it wont start before relising the kill switch is off or its in gear
