Hi guys need some help here, Driving at around 30 miles per hour on my 05 rsvr factory , it just stopped dead in the road. tried 15 sec flash hold for a fault code but got none. now after the very very nice man took me and my bike home i stripped it down , and have come to the conclusion after pouring petrol down ports and it started first push of button. so it seems to be not not mechanical as such , could it be the fuel pump not preasurising the system or anyone got any ideas. Please help me the sun is out in scotland for a change and a cont ride out :angry

Check you battery terminals pal if they come loose the bike just stops dead, there are a few scottish lads on here m8 someone will help...

Battery terminals all ok, thanks for input , as i said runs fine if i pour petrol down its neck and start it lol.

could be fuel pump relay or the fuse for the pump or the pump itself .oh and as bryan said Battery terminals ,you say there tight if i was you i would strip and clean all the terminals anyway mate give all the lead parts a good scrape . mine were tight to but when i stripped them down the bolts were rusty and the terminals needed a good rub up .just cause there tight dont mean there ok ..gid-luck mate hope you get it sorted

Yea i gave the terminals a good clean etc as a precaution as advised by bryan and tried again but non-start, like yourself i am still leaning towards fuel stravation via pump , will try to eliminate sat am. cheers.

Hard to check as it's run by can bus. Mine sounded like it was priming but it wAs actually the electronic Gubbings attached which wasn't sending the signal to the ecu

slightly removed flow pipe bolt and turned on ignition, fuel flowed but more like a trickle i would of thought it would of squirted due to being under pressure, not so sure now its the fuel pump due to the fact that fuel was pushed to top of pipe all be it not a good pressure though.

any suggestions !!!!!!

Although Gav I still Agree with what you say,

Hello all,

I believe i have the same issue on my 04, going to strip the fuel pump down today (and watch the F1) to see if there is a clear problem or blockage, i do get a 1 second primer noise which then stops (should last for at least 5 seconds). Will let you know how i get on.

Hiya,

Not to bad, the inspection is quite easy really but my bike is in bits already so not much to remove. Checking the filter is the most important part which is located under the black plastic trim. After reading up on the pump i have found that the ECU controls the length of time pump primes for (generally three seconds) but if the kill switch is engaged it will not run the pump but will still activate the timer, ie if the pump primes for 3 seconds and the kill switch is engaged for two then you will only get a 1 second prime.

Some of the clips on the fuel pump are best not remove unless you have new replacements as removing them will basicly destroy them! Once i had the tank off i replugged the pump back in to the circuit and then engaged the on key. Again the pump makes a fast buzz noise and then stops (about 1 second). I have also found out that you can plug the pump in to a 12 Vdc (Direct Current) and if it buzzes it works! (Green + Blue -).

Hope this helps

Russ

Thanks Russ, Do you know what kind of pressure the pump creates at the throttle body end by any chance as when i loosened it and turned switch on to prime etc there was just a trickle, i would of thought it would of squirt out due to being pressurised. if its supposed to be just a trickle then i think my pump must be ok and its something else. god know what else it could be as as i said in original post squirting petrol down the open ports directly into engine it will start first time and i cant see it being blocked injectors or both at same time. a still swing towards the pump but the pressure bit is throwing me off.

cheers stuart

Just thought of something there. as the main fuel line to throttle boddies is braided then i suspect it will be under a large amount of pressure , if this is the case then my pump is &*%$ed due to the fact when i loosen bolt at throttle boddie and only trickles out when key turned then it must be the problem. any thoughts !!!!!!!!!!!

Gotta be honest dude it does sound a bit like the fuel pump isn't working properly.

Disconnect the quick release fastening on the Return side of the pump and pop it into a bottle, turn the ignition on it's should be quite strong, if it's just a dribble then it sounds like a pump problem.

Take the pump out of the tank ( its not too difficult don't worry) and check the pipes around the pump, the pump unit itself is working as you can hear the noise of it operating but there are small pipes on the pump itself that can become disconnected .... Usually an easy fix!

Let us know how you get on buddy!

Hey Griff you were spot on m8, took pump out of fuel tank and the black rubber pipe on the pump was split half way round so all it was doing really was pumping into tank, do you recon i could use pipe from a car accessory shop and small jubilee clips or would it need to be the correct clamps and pipe. But at least i got half way there to fixing it . oh yes. !!!!!!!!!!!!!

as long as the pipe you use is solvent resistant you shoud be fine buddy!!

glad i could help!!
