hey all
got nike back today, another new battery on, dealer says all seems ok, but i just want to do some testing of my own.
how do i test the starter solenoid
how do i test the rectifier
how do ites the generator
(04 Factory)
as i'm convinced it still driains slightly and i want to satisfy my worries before i bugger up my sprag clutch

cheers guys

anyone know of where to get a better starter solenoid for an 04 rsv factory (other models might have better solenoid)
same for other parts if possible

do a search on the site for the Yamaha one. part no is on here somewhere they are superior quality and cheaper.

Checking the stator

Disconnect the brown connector, between pins 1-2, 1-3 and 2-3 it must read >60 volts AC @ 4,000 RPM

cheers spoonz, is that the brown connector next to the recifier?
can i just disconnect that while the engine is runing to test?

i'm gonna order a yamaha starter relay to be on the sasfe side, worth it for 30 quid
anyone know who sells them plz
cheers

yes disconnect stator wire from rectifier. do it before starting if i were you and reconnect when bike is off again. don't want to spike anything.

You can order them through any motorbike shop agreat1. I got mine from a local place, arrived the following day. Either that or give your local Yamaha dealer a call squire :)

on order, due here tuesday.
went for a blast today, bike felt fantastic again, still not 100% with starting, so going safe, with new solenoid and rectifier
then if all else fails new generator

woo hoo we're riding agin and it feels fantastic

checked the stator relay and all above 60v so looking good there
i've swapped acumen for an optimate, last night and this morning all was good
bled the back brake and carried out your test on the relay. all done ok, reconnected optimate, popped back in shed, optimate showing red light for not holding charge or short, disconnected and reconnected, will monitor and update you.
new starter relay coming on tuesday.
wonder if it is the stator relay, no signs of corrosion or melting, but could be i suppose

You must be (slightly relieved). I don't think my wallet could handle a sprag clutch at the moment.

Good point Sabbath, Optimates need to be switched off at the mains before reconnecting to the bike to reset the charging proceedure. If you simply unplug the optimate from the bike and then reconnect it later without switching the optimate off at the mains plug, it won't charge and condition the battery and a red light will normally appear.
