Bike dumping oil from unknown!?!?

Last night I decided to give my chain a good clean and oil then I noticed a small puddle of oil under the bike. Checked the bike, no oil leaks as I can see. removed the side panels and check the oil level. all good and still no sign of a leak.

Ok so the oil must have come from my axle stands that just moved. yes thats it.

Finished work tonight and started her up. fired on the first go:thumbup. always amazes me when it does that :biggrin, anyways, move the bike back a little and again noticed a small puddle of oil. used about an egg cup full. checked the bike over with a tourch, nothing that I can see.

The bikes in the garage now, just waiting for the wife to get home so I can leave my boys and go in the garage and rip the panels off and have a good look.

Any ideas on what it could be? any places I should be looking and don't say the bloody engine :biggrin

any ideas would be great. I just know someone on her will tell me its a common thing to check etc. come on guys :thumbup

Hi Garv,it's possibly from your clutch slave cylinder.Check the level of fluid in the reservoir,if low remove the left side fairing panel.Very common fault. You can get a seal kit from RSVR OR MEGA BUCKS FOR A MODIFIED REPLACEMENT.

check the oil tank is not leaking and the pipes and fittings, some tanks have split, mostly 04 on though

If it's engine oil then it could be dripping from your air box.

When I bought mine it was so full it was flowing out of the breather vents, must have been 1/4 of a litre of oil in there.

The joys of buying a well maintained bike!!!

well worth a look then, wish the bloody missues would get homwe so I can go and check :thumbup

Check your oil prssure switch. They can 'blow' and let oil through (and still 'switch' if you know what I mean).

well ive had a look and I have oil in my airbox so guessing thats where the oil is coming from. why do I have oil in the airbox? it was serviced (Full) about 4k ago, i've changed the oil and plugs when I brought it about 2k ago.
is once ive cleaned the airbox up is it still ok to use? need to get to work tomorrow morning.

With the airbox I guess thats why I couldnt find anyplace the oil was leaking from?

if the airbox is full of oil i think thats a sign of bike being overfilled, not 100% thou

its not lots but enough to tell me it shouldnt be in the airbox. I can wipe it out not spoon it out :lol
I haven't touched the oil level for about 2k miles so little confused. had a browse on here and found another post with oil in the box and yes eveyone does say to much oil. its a strange strange thing.

has the bike got an overflow pot or something that I need to check incase its full? i know its dumb question but just little worried I dont want to bugger the engine.

Oh one plus is I found out I have a K&N filter :)

:devious Hey garv.make sure the oil level is right.these things are very touchy, you want it at 3/4 mark not all the way full.and make sure you check it when it is warm ,ofcourse you know that, and you might check the oil filter mine leaked from there I put a new gasket and it worked fine, good luck I hope you get it sorted out.donnie :thumbup

theres a small clear pipe under the airbox on left side i think that collects excess oil

I have had a little leak previous on mine which turned out to be coming from the mounting where the back brake lever bracket bolts to engine
bolts had loosened off

Also if the clutch slave seal is gone then it will leak drain into belly pan & over floor as mine did this

Doubt it's coming from the airbox if the oil level has not been touched for 2k miles, no reason for it to start now.

Oil level check, warm engine fully and keep the throttle at constant 4k revs with bike upright and level, only fill two thirds the way up the sight glass, job done.

You need to pull the panels off to get a proper look, take them off and check all the suggestions in the thread.

The amount of oil you have in the airbox is minimal and nothing to be concerned about.:thumbup, but you do need to find the problem for safety's sake mate

Well i've cleaned the airbox out. level of oil when warm is was just above half way on the tube.
the belly pan looks like its had a bit oil build up. the oil looks like its dripped down from the airbox as the bodies have oil down the sides all the way down to to the belly. cleaned it all up so see what its like tomorrow. either it blows up or I get to work. will need to strip it down at the weekend and have a better look.

Garv ;)

Take it easy until you've sussed it Garv in case there is any oil heading for the back wheel.
