Bike Buying isnt al its cracked up to be :|

S

Super T

Well its almost time ive been staying in doors not going out , being even more of a cheapskate trying to save money for the last few months and i want a new bike now well thats what i decided last week anyway.

So today i met up with Bad boy & Smiffy and went bike shopping :doug however tonight its left me a bit underwelmed :(

I duuno i saw the bike i thought i wanted today a KTM superduke R & its probably the bike im going to get but it just didnt do much for me couple with the fact the dealer didnt want to do a deal even though im paying cash put me off even more i mean part of buying a bike is the haggling to get it a bit cheaper.

Infact the only bike i saw today that had any wow factor was the Ducati streetfighter thats one hell of a bike but sadly its way out of my price range :(

When i got home i thought id phone the other dealers that had superdukes however none really wanted to drop on the price so for now im holding on to my money.

Lots of factory Tuonos on biketrader so who knows maybe ill change my mind yet again anyhow rant over with :rant

I need to get back on two wheels soon as its doing my head in now

Oh yeah another thing thats annoying me is my licence is with the DVLA as becuase i have a photocard licence they expire every 10 years so still waiting for my new licence which means no test rides until i get it :(

hang in there dan,i feel your pain mate.
its must be a year since i last rode/had to sell my mille.

dealers are ******** tho,in this time of credit crunch and recesion,
im sure not many folk are upgrading to a new bike!
jerks.

Stop whining :devious , you got a pocket full of wonga mate, if the dealers dont want to deal they dont wanto sell a bike.

Superduke R :inlove are there many about?

Lucky you with that dosh to spend....

I just bought a DR 350 trail bike for £650. On the ****** b roads (and obviously off them !) its fantastic fun and can be flung about. Superb city bike, a bit noisy mind........

The Streetfighter is a waste of good money IMO - I've had big naked bikes for years (got one now) and you cant do 120 mph plus for more than five minutes, by which time the streetfightere hasnt even woken up, whats the point? Its a look at me bike IMO.

The Superduke is good fun, awful fuelling at low speeds and in town, why bother with the R version though, its just bling. Be strong, you'll get a deal when they realise the recession is only just beginning. Me, I'd go for a Tuono if I wanted a twin, the prices are rock bottom.

Well thats a bit of an issue Stew mate there isnt many about trust me to be awkward :( i think im looking at one in Wales & one in Sussex at the Moment

Yep thats is trues as well ive done alot of research while ive been off the road for the last 6 months , however the fuelling is much better with the Akros & a remap :) as for the R well i guess i want my bike to look like a sainsburys shopping trolley :thumbup

Tuonos are a good deal at the moment your right mate however i dont really want to go back to the same bike i had before hence somthing different.

Good news i guess if i can call it that the dealer i went to yesterday phoned me today with a revised offer so there is now £50 difference between what i want to pay for the bike & what hes prepared to sell it to me for

Heres hoping i get my licence through the post soon so i can go have a test ride before all those bike buying foreigners take advantage and ship it off in a crate to Europe

Cheers Dan :)

stop being a gay ****** and get the duke you poof! its a mans bike! not a girly tuono, and as for the ducati well look at me in the car park :jack

Mmmm the superduke now that's a cracking bike. I like the R version but more really for the orange frame which I think sets off the black better. A nice bit of contrast, plus I like orange. Don't like the idea of no pillions though as now and again I do take a passenger out for blast

I wouldn't hang on to your money for too long, mate. Bike prices in britain are cheap compared to most of europe, and the prices are already starting to rise. I think you're gonna struggle to get a deal this year no matter what bike you look at.
Spend, spend, spend!

Hmm hadnt thought about the no pillions thing but i guess its tough :)

Thats what the industry wants us to believe but there is another school of thought.

There is absolutely no sign whatever of big bikes selling, and the used market is dead. If people can't afford 12.5 grand for a new litre sportsbike or whatever, then prices will drop back. Sooner or later the dealer will cut his margin to shift the stock. With tax and fuel prices and inflation all getting ready to kick in I think dealers are gonna struggle and later in the year new prices will slump.

Oh man thats a BEAUTY!

When my wrists finaly cry enough one day thats the kind of bike I'd love to own

Nice!!

I'd like to believe that, but I don't think it's gonna happen. Dealers are already scraping tiny profit margins on new bikes, and if the manufacturers put their prices up (as they have), then the dealers have no choice but to follow suit. They can't swallow any more losses, so they're more likely to go bust than drop their prices.

Dan, you buying new? I would've put you in touch with a mate of mine thats selling his S.Duke R oh well - it certainly a fun bike to ride fast :devious

Deacs :thumbup

Heard it all before, end of the year you can bet any money that they'll cut their margins. In any case the workshop generates a far greater slice of profits than the showroom. But if sales are low, they'll cut the margins sooner rather than later.

Thing is AH no one is forced to sell motorcycles. Of course there has to be sufficient margin in the business, if there wasn't no one would do it in the first place. They're not gonna stop taking their piece just because wholesale has gone up.....Unless people dont buy enough, which is why come the end of every year there are deals to be had.

If any of us had a grain of sense we would simply draw the line at these increases. Any punter who spends over 10k, never mind 12, on something so utterly pointless as a litre sportsbike (muzzled and uncomfortable on our overcrowded crap roads) deserves to be shafted. ;) If you must have one (for the track say) you can get a really good used example for 3k, a tidy o4 Gix maybe. Chances are it'll be more comfortable and have more usable grunt than the modern equivalent.
