Begining to think I've did the wrong thing in getting this bike

It's nice dont me wrong, but again it's back to a bloody racer that I said I was finished with :roll, to me, it really is just like my old R1 apart from not as much power and (imo) harder seat. And I got rid of it because of the low bars/position and to much town/traffic riding, I was tempted to put a flat bar conversion on it but just didnt ever do it, the suspension on it (R1) seemed smoother too compared to the this one (probably needs set though).

As I say. it's a good bike but I said to myself, if I ever get rid of the Bandit (which I had for dam near 2-1/2ish years) it'd be a sports tourer type thing.....and what do I do....get this bloody thing, I'd have been as well keeping the R1 :roll :jack

God know what'll happen now, as I dont have the cash just now to do the flat bar conversion so will have to suffer the low position, honest to god, I really am my own worst enemy at times :roll

No offence but exactly what expectations did you have when you bought a Mille?. They are essentially race bikes with lights and indicators fitted. Aprilia purpose built the things to win WSB races.

Your other recent thread mentions you are having thoughts on a Honda SP1 or SP2. Having ridden a friends SP2 I can tell you one thing - if you think the RSV is uncomfortable and deeply uncompromising then just wait till you try an SP1. Over distance it is most possibly the most uncomfortable thing I've ever graced my backside with. On full lock your thumbs get trapped between the tank and bars and the turning circle is ridiculous. But, like the Mille, on the road once you get them up to a certain speed, everything just starts to "work right". I have to say I've used my RSV for almost everything - commuting, fast rides for pleasure and touring over a long distance. It's no less comfortable than any other sportsbike of its type ( apart from maybe the SP1 :biggrin ). I'm 82kg and 6ft tall and it fits me perfectly ( or is it the other way about - I fit it perfectly? ).

When I bought mine back in 2004 I had actually put a deposit down on a Blackbird at the same dealers. But when I returned the next day to finalise the deal and pick the Honda up, there were 3 RSV's sat out front for sale that I didn't see the previous day. I took one look at the thing and knew I had to buy it. Much to the wife's annoyance. The mechanic at the dealer was going through the controls with me and said something to me which I remember to this day. I think it sums up the Mille riding experience perfectly.

"When you get on this thing and ride it through town you will wonder why on earth you bought it today. But once you get out of town and onto the open road on your way home, you will know exactly why you bought it". Then he grinned at me. :thumbup

I dont know...stupidity/rose coloured specs/spur of the moment ect....

Like I said, it's nothing against the bike, it's me.....the thing is too, I'm not that quick and havent been for while, I've got my moments but not that many now, I'm trying to enjoy it but..

Or try and do the yoke conversion and get used to the rest

I think a few of us said to you a couple of weeks ago not to rush into it and buy the first one you saw just because it was close to home.

If you'd waited and found a good one (at a better price than you paid probably) and not had the clutch trouble and whatever else you might have a different view.

Rob :)

It wasnt the first, I saw 2 others but got drawn to the R, I got this for a good price eventually, I'll go and see them tomorrow about the clutch...like I say it's not the bike. I do like it but I was to used to the easness of the Bandit, I'll stick with it though and see how it goes....maybe I'm to old for a balls out sports bike now time will tell :biggrin

after riding a cbr 600 for 10 years one test ride on a mille i was hooked, they r loud and brutish but that power and looks awesome.let the revs dip to far its like a tractor keep it on song and its sweet but saying that was in north wales 7.30 this mornig and it was coooooold where is summer, stopped 3 times to warm me hands on exhaust.(and its great for getting the neighbours up result)

It's not that expensive, you can do the bar conversion for as little as £220.00 if you are prepared to butcher your fairing & modify your original top yoke :thumbup

Ian, I've only been riding 4 years and this is my third bike but first sports bike, I previously had a learner 500 er500 then a TDM850, the 850 was always going to be an In between bike as I was sure to always get a Mille, after leaving the TDM and buying one of these I hated my decision because I've been so familiar with comfort and it was quite quick after me fooling around with it a bit, but after a couple of months and learning more about the way these special bikes work I absolutely love the thing and wouldn't swap it for a long time, I've ridden a couple of mates sports bikes and I do think they feel a bit more powerful but the way these things corner and feel compare to others is what makes them so good, stick with it and you'll definetly love your Mille, or maybe you'll convert back to the dark side lol

I know, mind you, I found 2, one that M&P sell, need to buy the bars and lines though which would take it more/less £300ish...the other's from someone called topyokes....see what happens

Dont get me wrong Caz...I like it, really like it, it's just my old bones lol and yes it's a bit diffirent looking and sounding from what I hear about here.....I'll give it a bit of time and see how goes.

But I know that if gona have a sports bike otr then you better get used to the rest that goes with it

its each to their own I suppose, and if its really killing you riding it then youd be stupid not to just get rid, you wont be getting the most out of the bike and not enjoing riding as much as you should..let s face it, no matter what bike you have its about the experiance, you have a car becasue its a necessity, you get a bike for the pure enjoyment, I personally love all things fast and that handle well, sometimes its a compromise between the both and thats what the mille is for me....I love the thing, even if mines 12 years old now, im 6 foot tall and I fit the bike perfectly, and to be honest isnt that extreme a position.....

I had a r1 that was written off by a old granny outside a library (just my luck) and had a 1250 bandit for a few months whilst the insurances sorted themselves out...it was the most boring, uninspiring bike ive ever ridden, almost to the point that I decided to buy a car... but saw mille and did the jump and never looked back, even through sprag issues (which cracked my engine casing)...your not a sports bike rider, get something ul enjoy mate...lifes to short to make do and see...i jumped on my bike and instantly fell in love, find something that u feel the same about :)

I've had many a bike searching for something I'm happy with,zx7r,r6,cbr fireblade,r1,gsxr750,cbr400,streetfighter with gsxr engine, gsxr 600,vtr 1000,and a good few more and I'm only 27,but the Mille feels very different to all the others and is definitly one of the slowest which is abit disappointing, but isn't slow whatsoever and that power mixed with the handling and how these sound is something hard to beat.the r models are the best value for money around,as for comfort, they are as comfortable as you want them to be.everything can be changed, seats, handlebar height, pegs, suspension,so there really is no reason to change bikes unless you just don't like the looks and your casey stoner and it just isn't fast enough, might not be as powerfull as the new BMW s1000rr but I'm out with one every weekend to Matlock and beat it through corners everytime.so it's the rider on the road not the bike.stick with if you like the looks and change it to suit you

I love my 06 - had it 6 weeks and don't want to change it at all....ever! Although, did do 250 miles yesterday and my bloody neck is paying for it now! Am going to buy a Bandit as a second bike so that I can take my lad out on it and something a bit more tame for days when I am going long distance and need to be able to move the next day lol.

I'll stick with for the time being, and if need be, I'll try and do the yoke conversion....see what happens

I guess the honemoon period's over and now the pain's starting lol

"ian mate" i dont know how old you are bud .but ive had my mille for 2 years now and had the cutch problems and a few more and yes some parts can be a good few quid to say the least .after 30 years in the motor trade with all the lifting heavy **** and rolling around the floor in the damp i have a trapped nerve in my lower back one in my neck and loads of other complaints wich i wont go into mate im now on my way to 49 years old and i have some painfull days but it wont keep me from riding my mille wich i love and hate lol infact i like theses bikes so much i now have 2 of the fuckers .ok so there not everyones cup of tea but nothing out there even comes close to the mille for me .i could ride my bike all day long in pain just because it gives me so much enjoyment and i never get board ever riding it .but theres no way im gonna buy a bandit R1 vfr cbr zzr fzr or any of that ***** its the mille all the way till the end mate pain and all lol . i also have my wee (triumph tiger cub) to play with if im to sore lol

Like thebees I too had a Bandit 1250 for a few weeks on loan when my last bike was written off. There's really nothing nice to say about it, it was just dull. I believe they are cheap (and probably reliable too) but not even that would convince me to own one.

I'm in my 50s and like mad biff quite happy to put up with some minor discomfort (especially in the neck) after several hours at the controls in exchange for the f**king huge GRIN on my face every time I turn up the loudness control!

Rob :)

Fekin brilliant biff :biggrin......I'm 48 and been on them since about 16, had a couple of years in mid 90s when I didnt have anything....when I got back last night, I sat down, *** me I felt as if I'd did a round with Tyson lol....I guess if fek all else, it gives you work out :biggrin.... she said "for god sake, is the bike not meant to be a pleasurable experience, look at you"

A little annoying peps saying how 'slow' these bikes are... as standard they have 10bhp more than a gsxr 1000 of the same year at 3000rpm, my mille has a renagade filter, a dr rossi chip and soon to have a modded header..and it isnt slow, any fool can gun it down a motorway...milles are made for twisties, pure grunt out of the corners etc, their still as fast as a 750 inline 4, and they're not exactly slow....peps complaining about the bike not giving them enough...think its the other way around :p
