Just checked the VBatt status on the RSV. It reads 10.5 or thereabouts. Is this good, bad or indifferent?

It's just sitting there at the moment, just the alarm and whatever else is on it to drain the battery. It's not on an Optimate, cos I haven't got one, nor power to the garage. I'll run a lead out there with a battery charger for a few hours before I want to start it, but should I be doing that more often?

hi there si

i dont have an optimate - never had any probs - if i dont use the rsv regular ie ever 4-5 days then i put charger on for hour or 2 every week-but if your garage away from house might be worth charging and wiring a socket under back seat and plugging a solar panel in and fit the panel outside to cover the load of the alarm ????

10.5 volts is not good for trying to start an RSV as you could end up damaging the sprag clutch with repated starting attempts. The dash voltage reading is not that accurate however. I would check the battery with multimeter.

i reckon legs and killa are both spot on si

recharge the battery before you try and start the bike for a few hours ,and run the bike if you can at least once a fortnight for at least 15 mins to warm the bike through dry everything out and keep it all in tip top shape!!

if you are strugglin a bit then change the battery for a different type of battery that will last longer without having to charge...the YTX12 and YTX14 are good but there is better ..... now i think the part number is YTX12sbs...but if you give mew a call mate i'll let you know for defo!!

these batteries ahve a massive crankin power .....safer for sprag clutches and better crankin efficency ....ive tested these on my bike and a few other guys from the forum have done too hstephen5 has and i know hes lovin the results too!!!

gimme a bell mate and i'll let you know for deffo!!

cheer
griffer!!

mate this battery is a revelation i promise!!!

:doug

il tell you a little story shall i......

the guy who taught me when i was an apprentice came to see me with his edwards replica ( withan alarm) so i could fettle it...i was shitting myself i swear!!

his bike was being a bit of a basterdos to start and he was losin faith a little bit with the maintanence.....

i put this battery on his bike and told him to test it for me that is dont put it on an optimate see how it goes!.......spoke to him a few times after that just about stuff and more stuff then he rang me about 2 months later and said "fook me the bike started without the optimate connected and the alarm armed" he was convinced!!
i run one on my bike and never had an issue with startin mine...but i do ride mine quite often...

im not sayin these are the miracle cure for all electrical ills on these bikes as ive only run one of these batteries for nearly two years.......without issues!!

but its damn close to gettin there!!!!

yes they fit in the battery holder...in fact they are smaller...they dont cost any more than the ytx14 and i have got em stock mate!!!:thumbup

hope this helps??

Griffer

...funny thing...

Google ytx14sbs and you only get 1 thing in italian and the other is a thread about ditching the ytx14sbs because they aren't very good.lol

yeah , need anything electrical let me know can get pretty much anything electrical / automotive at trade price

no mate thats the standard ytx14....

ill confirm the battery on my bike tomorrow for ya geez!!

strange but ive never seen a bosch battery...ive only ever used varta!!

Guys, the battery model codes for uprated batteries are either YTX14-BS or YTZ14S-BS. Personally i would go for the YTZ14S-BS due to it's higher cold cranking amp capability

Yep, I also have a Varta funstart YTZ14 S-BS, and it is the best battery I have ever tried and as Legs said it has a very good cold cranking rating so it's just the biz on the RSV, cost me £45 plus £5 shipping, Bargain
