It appears both batteries use AGM technology which is far better than the old lead / acid type battery due to a higher cold cranking amp and a much slower self discharge rate, though the Lucas one doesn't actually state it's AGM so may be worth finding out first.

The cold cranking amps (CCa) on the Lucas battery is 200 CCa, the Varta one appears to be only 100 and is stated as a "cold test current, EN". Whether this is the same measurement and can be directly compared i'm not sure, but certainly 200 CCa for the Lucas battery is more than an adequate upgrade. On this i'd go with the Lucas battery if it's AGM.

Another option is the Westco battery but this is a little more cash. This is an AGM battery and has a spec of 200 CCa

Which ever battery you go for, rememeber to charge the battery overnight on an Optimate to get full charge out the battery before installing it on the bike

Just checked the Lucas website and it is listed as AGM.

Think i will go with the Lucas then, Cheers Legs :thumbup

The Westco has the same spec as the Lucas, is it worth the extra £14 though?

I've just fitted a YTX14 BS Numax battery to my bike, it's the old lead acid type but for £36 delivered to my door, I thinks I'll take me chances.

Spins her over like a WWF wrestler tossing pancakes, starts on the button everytime.

I'm happy and it has a 12 month guarantee to boot.
