Baglux Tank Cover Straps?

What is the best routing for the attachment starps on my 0'00 Mille? I have the later 2000.5 tank on it, and when I look uner the tank to see where to route the straps, it seems it will foul some thing or another.

Thanks

For what it's worth I have just bought a 2002 model (2003 reg) with a baglux cover and the strap seems to thread THRU in between the throttle bodies.

NOT a very clever idea if you want to lift the tank!

Not had much of a chance to look at it closely yet but I'll mention it to the UK importer when I see him ( possibly thurs night) as he is usually to be found at the bike club then.

If not I will probably look in the shop on fri as it is only 1/2 mile down the road from me and I haven't been in for a while so will try and blag a tank bag to "roadtest".:devious

Thanks for that

When I look under the tank to see where to thread the strap, I keep thinking I will bend/break something important. I'll try and take a photo of what I see from both sides of the tank.

I have a Baglux covers on my Blade, ZZR and VFR, as I hate using back packs.

I've never really been a fan of tank bags generally,I use a rucksack when riding to work but this Mille (Diablo black) I've just got has a Baglux unit to cover a stratch on the tank ( I believe, not taken it off to look yet).

Was going to take it off,but the black with red flashes looks ok for the time being I think.

It was only when I looked between the frame rail & tank to admire all the bits that live under there that I saw the retaining strap was twisted.

Now I think it was twisted to give it the straightest path from side to side, unfortunately it seems to link thru' the V of the injector bodies. Not a problem as such, just need to remove it to lift the tank I guess.

Anyway as I say, if I see Chris this week I'll ask what he thinks.

I stopped using a rucksack following an accident when a bunch of keys I had in there left their imprint on my back.

My cover ifor the Mille is black, although my bike is red, but looks OK. Just want to know that the strap won't break anything under the tank when tightened.

Chris doesn't work at Piaggio does he?

Doesn't seem to have done mine any harm, it looks as if the two injector bodies have a cast in bracing bar across the V at the top. My rear strap seems to go thru the casting under this bar,it doesn't need to be tight like a bowstring.just snugged up ( I think ! )

And no Chris don't work for Piaggio, he is THE Baglux importer for the UK. All sales in the country go thru his shop, wherever you buy from. http://www.baglux.co.uk/contact.php

I would have called in after work as I pass the shop anyway but he closes at 4.30 and I usually miss that by about 10 mins:dunno

I tried to take some pics earlier but don't think they show up much detail under the tank.

Sorry-me being thick there about your mate-obvious to me now you meant he is the importer of the Baglux.

I'll have to lift the tank on my Mille to see where I can thread the strap through, as I keep thinking I will squash or damage something if I put it through the most obvious routing.

Thanks for your help-much appreciated.

Ok , spoke to Chris last night and learnt the following,

1) He sold the business to his partner and now he only does the shows & exhibitions.

2) He had a look at my bike and said that although he can't remember bike specific details ( as there must be hundreds of different makes models etc) the strap doesn't have to be tight,it's really there to hold the cover snuggly ? to the tank, the front one should be relatively tight tho.

He was unsure but thought the rear lower corners ? were possibly clamped by the forward side panel fixing screw. Didn't try taking mine off but it certainly did look as if the cover went underneath the side panel, will have a better look over the w/end if I get time too.

Thanks Ian. I bought my cover from a mate at work as he aded his Mille for a Tuono. It has no strap a the front, and looking closely at it, it doesn't look like there ever were. No signs of any removed webbing and there is reinforcement around the front of the cover like there is on my Fireblade cover :confused

He told me the rear is secured by removing the seat before fitting the cover, as the seat "clamps" the cover down. It fits flush with the tank so nothing extra bit od cover to go under the panels.

Will put it on lateer today, once I have tried to find out what is wrong with my Blade :dunno

Hi mate,
Whats wrong with the H***a then? or shouldn't one ask on this forum?

As to straps, had a better look at the Bagster this pm, the main strap goes round the headstock and I guess is the most important one, the one we are discussing threads thru between the two injector bodies and doesn't need to be all that tight as it is really only to pull the sides in.

I see what you mean about the seat clamping the back down , I agree it looks unlikely the side covers clamp anything.

I keep meaning to start pulling bits off the bike to check and adjust ( modify) trouble is tho' the weather, just to nice not to be riding.

Hi mate

Before going out this morning I looked at the cover again, and it has got a front strap-no idea what i was looking at to think there wasn't one! At least that one is easy to route!

Still cannot see a natural route to feed the strap-I'll take a photo from each side to show what I mean. I have been wondering if I lift the tank and put the strap on before lowering the tanlk and bolting it up? The weather is so good, i don't want to be adding stuff when i can be out riding.

As for the Blade, it's been suffering with a misfire and not charging. I removed the battery terminals and done them up again, and likewise the earthing strap. Been perfect all day, except that the speedo and temp guge has stopped working. Who said italian bikes had fickle electrics?

Hey, Did you fix the problems?

Took a more in depth look over my bike today, can confirm the nose strap ties the front down round the headstock, and the side panels do indeed clamp "ears" at the rear to the frame.

The best way I think is to fit the cover to the tank, lift the tank up and thread the middle strap underneath & between the injector bodies ( should be able to plot the best posn with the tank up) & just leave this one unclipped at the r/h side till last.

Lower the tank & bolt it down ,secure the h/stock strap ,then fit the side panels clamping the rear ears, should be easy enough then to adjust the slack in the centre strap and clip it up.

Re fit the seat, job done.

Hey, Did you fix the problems?

Blade is at work-I think the problem is a bad earth (somewhere:dunno) and a blown fuse-probably because of the bad earth. I have a BMW K1300S on loan to me, so want to spend sometime riding that rather than fix the bike. Going over to the Czech Repunlic soon, so had better get it sorted!

Been thinking about how to do the cover, and this is exactly what I thought of doing-as you say, the front strap is the most important. The ears on my cover have two holes on them-looks like a former owner had used these to tie the back down somehow. One has split but I have a shoe "eye" fitting thing in the garage, so i'll see what I can do
