Baffling EFI message

Dealer not sure of the cause, anyone got any ideas?

2004 RSVR
Took the bike for MOT recently and on the way the EFI warning message came on intermittently. Rode to Brands the next day and the warning came on whenever a consistent speed was maintained but went off if I slightly accelerated/decelerated. No impact at all on the performance of the bike. Any thoughts?

Try pressing the lap timer (headlamp flash button) for at least 15 seconds as you turn on the ignition. See if an error code throws up. If none the check the brown stator/ reg/rectifier plugs for corrosion or melting. You may need to separate the plug to check. If it is cut out the block and solder then heat shrink the cable.

Appreciate your help.

Getting a message '50' where the water temp is normally displayed, presumably this is the error code. I understand this relates to the starter but not having any starter issues? I did ride to Donington on Sunday and after each stop for fuel, 3 times, the hazhard icon/oil emblem stayed on after starting and the bike went into limp mode. Switch off/on and it cleared. Not sure if that clarifies the issue or clouds it?

About 8 years ago I did have a mouse attack the wiring under the seat and the dealer advised taping it up with electrical tape. Could that be causing the current problem?

Message 50 is a fault on the starter as you say.
Starter short circuit/open
Starter short circuit with battery +v
Is what it says in the manual. So the mouse could of been the issue? Check all the wiring to and from the starter in case of corrosion on the pins or melting plugs.

brown stator etc are perfect. Looks like the issue is the mouse damage having removed the electrical tape it was probably hiding the problem. Junction is showing signs of plastic melting and is hot to touch when switched on. This was the connector chewed by the mouse.
Excuse the ignorance but I have never touched any bike electrics, can I easily replace the connector?

Can you post a picture so I can check what I'm looking at please?
But yes you need a soldering iron, some solder and some heat shrink tubing. The heat if excessive will be caused by corrosion at some place in the connector pins at whichever end. The heat builds up till the point of resistance, usually the plug, starts to melt. Cut the plug out, strip back the wire, slide heat shrink tube over it, solder the join, heat shrink over the top of join, hot air gun to shrink it and job done. Some insulating tape around if it needs attaching back in the loom. Do that after you have checked it for heat etc.

One step forward two back!!
Replaced the connector and no resistance i.e no heat.
But the bike will not turn over. When the ignition is turned on, the fob will not set up the sequence and the EFI light remains on. Starter primes itself but bike doesn't turn over. Its as if the alarm is not disengaged.
Also I notice that the side stand dash light remains on despite the side stand being in the up position?

I'm a bit lost now as to what plug was melted. Pictures will help. so you get nothing at all when the starter is thumbed? It has a built in immobiliser also.

The new alarm resolved the starting issue. Having replaced the connector damaged by the mouse (which was overheating) the dash now indicates no error codes and code 50 has been eliminated. Plan to ride the bike in the morning to see if the intermittent EFI message has now been resolved. Fingers crossed!

Bike rides okay but intermittent EFI message still there!!! Appears if holding a steady speed and goes out if you accelerate/decelerate?
