Back Brake Bleeding

Day before yesterday while out for a ride I noticed that my back brake had around a foot of travel on it. Having read about the problems of air in back brakes I knew it needed bleeding. Thought I could just unbolt the calliper, stick it on top of the disk and bleed away! No such luck, after 45 minutes of labouring, still in the riding kit because I thought it would be a quick job (first mistake) I put the bike back together with the back brake almost as good as when I started.

Next day, following a bit of Internet research, did the bleed in around 30 minutes and it's now bloody lovely. So, to save any of you the time of the 'learning' experience, I thought I'd write down how I did it.

Attached is the Aprilia comment on bleeding and my sheet on the successful bleed. Hope it's some help. :thumbup

why did you take the caliper off..?

easy undo the bleed nippel stick the bleeding kit on, pump away filling it up every now and then, close the nippel pump the leave till soild, SORTED!

If it was only that simple Rene, RSV's need a unique bleeding process to ensure all the air is out of the caliper :thumbup

Absolutely....the bleeding appears to be a ridiculous affair..BUT it works. Probably takes 20mins all told...the most fiddly bit is the brake line cover that runs along the swing arm.

My back brake was useless, then i tried the bleeding procedure.....OMG!!!! tons of air came out... now the brake locks on slight touch...unbelieveble, i only hope it will stay like that for a bit.
Thanks Kzmille :thumbup
