So, first of all I go into K+N's website and they tell me I need filter KN-152
So I order that and it turns out it's too short, my bike has the modified longer filter.
That annoyed me a little in itself, but I order the correct KN-564 instead and put it down to experience.
Guess what, the damn KN-564 doesn't fit either!:roll
There are little raised 'bumps' on the inside of the filter cover that are supposed to slot into an indentation on the end of the filter.
Not a chance, no amount of fiddling/knocking will make it fit.
End result, no way the filter cover will go on.
So that's £20 completely wasted on K+N filters and 2 more days the bike is off the road until I get a normal HF-564 filter.

Live and learn, as they say. I always go to a shop for my oil filters; means I can take it back, if it's wrong. Also learnt the lesson a long time ago about the longer filters; make sure you specify that's what you want, otherwise you are almost guaranteed to get the short one, leaving you stuck with a bike drained of oil!

One of those things, didn't know I needed the longer one until I took the cover off.
By that time, already ordered the short one (KN152)
Weird that the indentation on the longer filter (KN564) isn't big enough to go over the raised bumps on the oil filter cover though.
The HF564 filter that came out sits nicely over them.
Would have thought indentation would be uniform size from manufacturer to manufacturer.
Genuine Aprilia HF564 on its way, it better fit or Knockhill BSB trip will be in jeopardy!!

I've used both OEM non-OEM filters, and I've never had any problems like you describe with the K&N design. Based upon your experience, I shall probably steer clear of their oil filter for the RSV.

just cleaning my K&N for my gen 1 - it's sitting outside drying as I type and is an excellent bit of kit. Shame you're having problems with fit - surely just return them?

Ach, returning them seems like too much hassle for the sake of £20.00
It's more the annoyance/delay than the money.
New genuine Aprilia 'Filtro Olio' has arrived today, thank goodness.
SURELY that will fit.:biggrin

I agree, I've never had any issues with their air filters; been using them on both cars and bikes for years. However, this thread is about an oil filter issue thatBol D'or has been having.

Looks like the Aprilia one will fit, although it still doesn't go over the 'bumps' on the inside of the cover as nicely as the generic filter that came out.
But then one of the filter cover allen bolts snapped....
This was despite using a torque wrench set to 11NM (the recommended setting)
One side clicks away nicely, the other one snaps long before clicking...
Good grief, what a palavour.

I've used both OEM and after-market filters, and have never had any problems with them. They have a tight fit, but are pushed in place when you tighten the cap.

I never use a torque wrench on these, just tighten them to what feels right. You ought to get that broken stub out when you can.

Broken stub came out no problem, thank goodness.
5 x replacement (minimum order) allen bolts for 60p from a local fastener supplier.

Hi There,

I am from Malaysia, a Tropical weather country.

Originally all the RSV 1000R (Factory or normal) here were imported with the standard KN-152 type fitted oil filters. However after sometime we realised that the weather here is too hot, thus there was a massive recall for all RSV owners here to change the oil filter to a slightly longer ones (the KN-564) so that the engine will run slightly colder.

Basically they just change the oil filter cover cap. Everything else works & fits fine.

I really have no idea why the ones you bought couldn't fit, because there was about 50++ units here and all fittings were without any issue.
