Good idea on saving more than a few bucks. I picked up a 2005 bike that had been sitting on the showroom floor in Townsville for 3 years. Wont tell you what i offerred them for it and out i walked happy as.
We are going to be in Kuranda Saturday morning about 10:00am for coffee if your interested. Always go to the cafe on the corner of the park pedestrian crossing at the front of the market...
Will be a Tuono - Grizzo and M1 with a couple of chicks with us....
There are lots of mods wait untill you get it and run it in then go for it... cheers

Hey Stu

First and foremost: welcome to the Tuono fold. She's meanest, most awe inspiring naked around.

Second: The first mod you'll need is to change the gearing. The standard 16/40 is to suit the Mille, so it's your choice: 15 front to start, then either 40, 42, or 43 rear. This will really make it hard to keep the front wheel on the ground. Here's a spreadsheet to play around with different gearing: http://www.apriliaforum.com/techtips.htm

Then you could alter your stock exhaust system to open up that glorious exhaust note by either coring your stock pipes, or a getting a new set of slip-ons or a complete system (really only of benefit if you're going racing IMO). Then you could replace the Sachs rear unit with an Ohlins shock, and kit the front forks with Ohlins valving etc. then maybe some bling: a set of shorty levers, a tail tidy (Mustard Bikes have a nice unit for sixty bucks), and carbon fibre galore.

Thirdly: just ride the tits off it mate.

Fourthly; We'll see you in Cairns for a hoon, err I mean a nice sedate ride into the hills.:thumbup

Dave:cheers

Thanks Towie & Chunky for the warm welcome & advice. Any advice on riding gear, I need everything ! I only have my dirt riding gear. Would appreciate advice on brands & products suited to the tropics and best place to save a few bucks. Online maybe !

I ride with mostly with a Dryrider "Climate Control II" jacket. Comes with both waterproof and winter liners. It's an airmesh type which means it's nice and cool in the heat of the far North. It has inbuilt removable shoulder and elbow armour, as well as back and rib padding. Bought it from my local Suzoooki shop for not much money (less than 200 bills from memory). Good value.

My awesome missus bought me a pair of Oxtar TCS Evo boots for my B/day. Very comfy and good flexibility and protection for the road, as well as some titanium toe sliders to wear out (as if....:rolleyes).

Dave

PS: I did buy some neat Aprilia "T" shirts and a cap from AF1 racing:

Now you will need 2 jackets warm/cool chunkies sounds the go i will be buying one in a few months no doubt.... To start get a cheaper helmut like $200 - $400 and boots well like leather jackets where do you stop. I had a cheap tourning boot for $100 pair and had them for 11 years just got the Rjays.
There is a million options depends on your budget but i would not go silly straight off the batt... Ebay has some geat bargains i have been looking at some new gear for my Mrs which is dificult as women are and shes XS so sizing is also difficult..

Hey Guys & many thanks for the excellent advice the best being " Just ride the tits off it mate". I was expecting to pick up my bike today however no show.....should be tomorrow though. When I started looking for a bike to buy a few weeks ago one of my purchasing criteria was that it needed to be comfortable 2 up & good for a fang when on my own. My partner Fiona is quite tall and I found that her comment "my knees are up around my ears" compared with the BMW was enough reason to suggest that she get her own bike. I quite like her knees around her ears !
Anyway on Saturday in the search for a decent ladies bike we found the Ducati 696 Monster which only took me a few hours to convince her that if she didn't buy a jap bike people would actually talk to her on a ride & that I would let her park it in my garage.
Fiona bought the bike today and she picks it up tomorrow.....It looks like both of us will be quite ill on Wednesday having to take the day off work....Food poisoning I suspect !
Hey Chunky Fi & I will be traveling to Townsville on the 19 th to 22 nd of September for the Magnetic Island Jazz Festival. I have a couple of mates playing there & I might get up for a jam too. Hope to catch up whilst down there.
A fellow rider up here suggested that Collins leathers would be the go and not to consider anything else however he's a hardcore full-on nutbag who never just rides his bike to the shops, so I like the idea of the climate control 11 setup and will check them out. I have to go to Melbourne, Sydney & Brisbane next week on business & may get some time to check out a few shops whilst there. I think I would like to get the slip ons as soon as possible and would like to know if its worth the effort to core the standard units.

Cheers Guys, Fi & I very much look forward to owning our first road bikes and meeting up with you soon.

Glad to be of service Stu.:cheers

I will be working over that weekend (as I do most weekends:banghead) but I'm sure we could catch up sometime while you're in town for a coffee or a coldie.
