Going to Assen on Wednesday with a load of my brothers mates who'll be mainly on Sports bikes & zzr 1400. Should I go on the Tuono & laugh at them looking like power rangers with aching wrists & backs whilst I cooly dismount the bike stroll up to the bar & order the beer. or will they be laughing at me trying to keep up with them whilst they nail it at 125 from Hook opf Holland to Assen. Or should I go on the 929 fireblade dig out my colour co-ordinated leathers & Alpine stars boots & join them moaning about my aching wrists & back every time we stop fopr fuel.
Advice please, anybody ridden to Assen, what are the Dutch police like for speeding etc. am I likely to get jailed then put on show in an Amsterdam *** bar whilst people shuvv butt pluggs up me arse.

I would go on the T mate and give your wrists a break , i did the north west 200 a couple of years back on my old T and it was the right choice i reckon , you aint gonna go the whole way at 125 mph anyhooo

Don't see 125mph as a problem unless your T is a 125, don't follow the herd, arrive in style, no aches and pains and laugh your **** off at the power rangers in agony, enjoy your trip either way dude. :thumbup

Went last year, dude you're in for a great time!

We rode up from Calais. French police don't tollerate any ***** but you won't have that problem. We got a lick on through Holland, came across several plod & all was fine, take the piss & they'll nab you I guess. Word of warning, don't get pissed up on race day. When leaving the circuit they herd you all out the same way, few miles later filter you off the road through a breatherliser station, I mean everyone I kid you not & their were 1000's of bikes. Luckily we were staying in Amsterdam for the weekend, had been on a huge one the night before so didn't fancy out on race day anyway. Smoke the good stuff to your hearts content tho!

In answer to your question, I was riding an rsvr & most of my mates were on blades, gixers & zx10s, the only two laughing at the end were my old man on a z1000 & my uncle on a ktm adventure. Take the T dude, be different & I'm sure you wont have any issues keeping pace. Roads are flat & straight so don't get to pumped about the actual ride itself. Plenty of pics please.

Enjoy, Robbo.

Was a bit of a rhetorical question T was always going to be the only option.
Just looked in the shed & saw the fireblade there under wraps looking very sorry for herself. Have only been out once on her since April. I think she needs a new home & somone to love her. :bawling Funds would go a long way towards a new RSV4 Tuono:crazy If I can wait another 12 Months:thumbup

Just a quickie. What about number plates. Got a 6"x4" on at the moment are they likely to be fussy over those. Have a legal one I was going to put in the (Camo)ruck just in case.

Had a small plate & loud cans on the rsvr, never caused any problems. I guess there are so many people that attend over the weekend, the police are used to it & turn a blind eye to the simpler matters focusing on the people taking the piss with the way they ride?

Great place to go with great people, the Dutch love their bikes. Got lost on the way to Assen from Amsterdam as took the back roads for a scenic ride as suggested by our hotelier. Much better than the boring straight motorways, if not a little weird. Straight flat roads through fields for miles on end, then you'd come across a few windmills with a dozen or so cracking 90 degree bends, then back to the straights. Anyway, stopped to ask this elderly couple cutting their hedge for directions. Expected the usual funny look you get from some in the UK & he responded with 'Yes, Assen is that way, quick it's 20 minutes or so, you have 30 minutes until the one twenty fives start, then yells to the missus to put the TV on'.

When we left the port at Calais there were these British guys two up on a shed of a Honda Transalp. After getting a crack on at 100mph plus we stopped for fuel about 80 miles in & they were behind us. Looked at the pillion & he had two fookin large bags, one hanging from each hand. Turns out they thought we knew where we were going so decided to follow us but we left before they were ready. The pillion was told to just grab the stuff sharpish, his arms were about a foot longer by the time we stopped.

LOL. I was thinking the same about taking the TOM TOM or just following the crowd. Think I'll take the TOM TOM.

You'll be fine, it's all pretty well sign posted, apart from the actual track. In the middle of a forest & the only sign for it we saw was at the entrance.

Have fun mate :thumbup

I think the police will be a little less lenient than they used to be ... got pulled over on the way out of Assen town centre on the Friday night, we were 3 up, with only the rider wearing a lid, and all we got was a "how far you going lads", we pointed at the next campsite, and we were just told, "no more wheelies then" and sent on our way ... mind you this was in 1981 !

mr tricky i could possibly help with ya fireblade issue? pm if you serious about a new home cheers colin
