Apparently my alarm caused the missfire....?

My bike whent back to the shop after a couple of weeks with leaking fork seals and a missfire. They have fixed the forks and said briefly that it was the alarm causing the misfire and it had been taken out re fitted:confused.

I was talking to a monkey and so when i speak to the organ grinder when picking up the bike i will hopefully know more. I am an electrical engineer:devious so he wont be able to fool me i hope.

My question is, does this sound right.

Oh yes, certainly heard many a Mille owner mention alarms causing running issues. :roll

Will still be nice to hear what they tell you though. :eatcorn

I have a PC3 USB, a 16t front sprocket and soon a hooked airbox to add but im not sure if i should do it all yet as it might happen again and void my warranty.

I would certainly recommend you run it for at least a few hundred miles before you start adding bits to it.

Once you're happy that the misfire is cure then you can start to add your goodies.

Mark, it might be worth thinking about removing the alarm completely unless it's a simple fix. Normally decent alarms such as Datatool and Meta are perfectly reliable and cause little issue, it's the poor quality of fitting that causes problems

Datatool system 3

CAN CAUSE running issiues......there is an issue with some alarm wires being connected to the wrong wire on the ECU

Now and again my bike would start and idle at 4000 rpm, this was due to the blue and white wire from the ecu going through the alarm, i have now changed this and the bike DOES run smoother ???

This was posted on the AF1 forum cos several guys had the same trouble

ALARMS are ****, every bike i have had with an alarm, has caused me problems any more and i'll be ripping the thing out for good

Seconded that alarms are *****, I gave my Meta alarm the benefit of the doubt for 6 months before ripping it off the bike.

Mine had caused the bike to completely cut out whilst riding, was a complete bugger to remove as it had been well fitted.

Since removing the alarm the bike hasn't missed a beat. :thumbup

I don't have an alarm on the mille thankgod but I had a meta on the blade and that was a nightmare the other half had a meta on his xjr1300 and that was just plain scarey used to cut out at high speed and would only behave if you belted the alarm modual.

What he said.....no one takes any notice.....and why the **** bother with an immobiliser, cos all they do is pick the bike up FFS

Agreed, alarms are not worth diddly squat hence most insurance companies don't insist on you having one any longer.
