Anyone ever had speedo lag on the RSV`s ?

For the longest time I though I was only getting 50 in first gear, then I realised it was the speedo lagging and it would sometime keep going up for a second after I slowed down. Its quite annoying as if you can through the gears then you glance down to see what sorta speed you are doing, you know your doing more than it says. I sometime use it to help me gauge my way around tracks when I learn them on a new bike, so when I first approach paddock at what it says is 120 but is actually 150, it could cause moments lol.

Anyone else experienced this?
Would it likely just be a case of the speedo cable needs lubing? or do the have a nylon gear etc the cable slots into??

Sounds like your cable needs lubing, I find cold tea best, just pour it into the speedo head & it works down.
Check out the worm gear too, it's next to the gangle pin just under the blockenaper pivot



Seriously, there will always be an inherent delay in the set up on Aprilias but only minimal, more like by the time you turn your gaze from the clocks back to the track & hit the brakes you'll gain a few MPH, showing on the speedo. if you're serious about track riding tape up the speedo, it's a distraction you can do without when you're supposed to be concentrting on hitting a brake marker.

Not at all. On the trackday in my avatar, I was hitting an indicated 155 on the speedo before I hit the brakes into paddock hill on a 21k 02 R1 on road tires hardly a GP bike lol. And it was my first time at brands on a an evening session that I rode to So i wasnt exactly balls out. Managed 140 on an 08 R6, and plenty were doing it faster on tackbikes with proper set ups, and obviously more experience of the track :thumbup
I`m not easily distracted like that and I find it a handy tool (when it works properly) for learning new tracks or new bikes on tracks I know. For instance when I went back on the R6 I was able to gauge roughly where I was losing or gaining time against my R1, or compared to previous laps.
When you dont have moto gp pit trips timing your times in each sector or corner of the track it can be very useful, to determine if I need to get on the gas a bit sooner (for eg) on a certain bend to match a previous terminal top speed from another lap using a different line/exit point etc. Helping me string together a lap that works best on my current bike and set up :thumbup
If I was racing I would remove it though as I`d be running too close top other bikes at a much higher pace to be even glancing at the speedo (at which point I wouldnt need too as Id have sorted lines, exit etc)

What can I tell you buddy, thats what it said, that was the best I managed, but any faster would have required a set up as I was running a road set up and the front was bottoming out meaning some eerie floating into paddock. Average was about 145.
The R1 was alot faster than my RSVR, even the R6 probably has it in a straight line (RSV would eat the R6 on our roads though)
Both were standard gearing, although they 55 profile rear tires which may have affected it one way or another??

I can only say what it read, i`m not trying to blow my trumpet, all speedos read high anyway, but what matters is that its fairly consistant, then it can be a useful gauge in finding your way around.

I would like to have kit like that. But I bike on a budget as it is mate. Lucky to scrape the cash together to afford that trackday! and it was only 70quid (evening). Not even got tire warmers, so fancy section laptimers is well down the list! My speedo technique works fine for me,( again if it worked properly ) I dont know why anyone would be "serious" about track days? If I could afford to race that would be different. Trackdays are just abit of fun :thumbup

CK - yes mate, i did a search and found the thread where you were saying about the bolts. Dont know if the rear disc is standard will have to check and do some comparing to see. If not could be a new sensor. couldn't find that cheap non aprilia part that was mentioned though..

Its a road bike, I rode it there, dont want tape glue all over my dash do I? it has no negative effect so I leave it and use it for rough reference.
I just leave the mirrors at home, put a cable tie on the fork, slap on the briefing stickers and i`m off :thumbup Hi ho silver awaaaay!
