anyone able to do sprag?

hi guys, in amoungst all of your wealth of experience and wisdom, would any of you be able to fit a new sprag clutch for me? not really that confident in doing it myself :confused im prob going to get a bmw sprag. if any of you guys are willing ill obviously sort you out for your time and supply tea/beer/food in plentiful amounts! cheers ben

If ya were'nt so far away mate I would do it for ya no woories. Hope ya get it sorted. Surely someone will help ya out on here. :thumbup
 
where abouts you from m8? id be willing to pay fuel on top of what you want for doing it aslong as its not 100's of miles away! lol
 
I'm in Kent mate, quite away from you me thinks and only really have a saturday to do it.
 
im not really fussed how quickly it gets done tbh aslong as its before mid march/april time. its up2 you m8, if you fancy earning a bit of cash just let me know how much u want 4 doin it. im more than happy to pay for fuel seeming as u wuud be doin me a huge favour! if you cant and its a bit too far for you 2 come dont woz m8. just drop me a pm if u fancy it.
 
I have a mate in Reading that might be up for it cos your about 250 round trip for me which is too far mate. I'll give him a bell tonight cos I know he's at footie today. Will get back to ya asap mate.

Regis, is your sprag actually malfunctioning?
Please don't go to all this expense and trouble if it's about the circlip - if you use the BMW sprag you SHOULD NOT put the circlip back in anyway as it will just happen again!
If the sprag's working OK, leave it alone: It's the lumps of metal floating around in your engine that are your primary concern and the only surefire way of putting your mind at rest on this score is to have a complete engine strip down. Considering new parts, gaskets and labour this is going to cost you considerably more than the £4-500 you can buy a second hand engine for if the metal bits were to do any damage.
Fitting a new sprag just because the circlip has broken up is just wasting your time and money.:dunno
 
i think the sprag is malfunctioning m8, it didnt start off the button 1st time all the time, it made a sort of spinning, trying to start but cant kind of noise, then when i hit the button again it fired up. it didnt sound 2 serious but ive never heard a fooked 1 b4 so im not entirely sure what to listen out 4! lol if it was nakkered would the bike still start at all? the only vid ive got of it doing it is the 1 below and its not gr8 quality. have a listen ad c what you think. thank you for the advice though m8, i would try and do another vid but ive draind all the oil out of her now! just thinking whilst the oil was out to do the sprag at the same time? why can things never b simple! haha!

Can't hear any sprag noise on your vid mate - and as I remember you made that vid some time ago so if the sprag was going then it would have probably gone by now. Sounded more like a bit of a weak battery to me.
The sprag noise is very distinctive - a nasty graunching noise and not turning over properly is the normal tell-tale and (in my experience, anyway) it will get worse and eventually fail pretty quickly.
BTW, not trying to tell you what to do - just trying to save you some money!:thumbup

i'm no mechanic but i wouldn't think that's anything to worry about either. how old's the battery? BTW what did u hide the camera in? thought that beemer was gonna swipe it. nice little vid.

Ello mate,
right me and me mate have had a listen to ya video and don't think its ya sprag gone. We think maybe weak battery or dodgey starter motor. The slight rattle may of been ya snapped circlip. Have managed to recover all the circlip? :dunno
 
i havnt managed to recover all of the circlip yet, gona have a go poss 2moz or nxt week before i head off to spain 4 a few days. thank you all for your help and comments, really do appreciate it and thanks a303, i appreciate your honesty and advice. ill fully charge the battery and see if that helps. if i cant seem to find anymore bits should i just do the oil and filter change and see what happens? if so ill try and post another vid of it starting if its still doing the same thing. its been doing it since i got the bike just under 1 yr ago, so if it was the sprag wud it have given up the ghost by now? wish i could pay u guys back for the help somehow!
the camera was jsut left on the armco barrier at the side of the road knightster, its funny how many people reckon the beemer came and nicked it! lol

Sprag goes pretty quick mate so I would of thought it would of gone by now mate, put fresh blood in her, get battery fully charged and fire her up mate is what I would do, only other choice you got is to have it stripped which is big bucks mate.

Yes mate, just oil and filter and try the magnet up the hole trick :)eek:). Nothing else to be done really. Thinking about it, you could pull the generator cover and check that there are no bits left in there but you'll want a gasket. And don't forget to put some goo in the top where the wires go into the cover to avoid leaks.
I reckon the sprag would have gone by now - do you use the recommended starting proceedure? Uprated battery and starter solenoid are always top of the RSV mod list. Have fun in Spain. Are you taking the bike?
 
lol unfortunately not, just going to puerta benuse with a couple of m8s who r going to play golf, dont know why i was invited as i dont even play! ill just sit in the club house and get sloshed! :thumbup yup i use the normal starting procedure, did have a slight incling that the battery might be a bit duff but didnt want to replace it as mileage would reset!:mad: ill give everything you guys have suggested and c how i get on, fingers crossed! thanks again all of you for your help:thumbup:thumbup
