anybody out there know why there's 2 spark plugs per cylinder on our bikes??

i take it theres a good reason??

cheers
pat.

Well I am no engineer but I am guessing its got a lot to do with the volume of the combustion chambers, 500cc or there about is a big hole, The plugs fire together (I think) so I guess its just twice the bang for your buck.

I believe the Cosworth tuned SP's only had one plug though ?

More than likely due to the combustion chamber design and to ensure even burn across the crown of the piston.

Gives better power production and ensures that you have even heat spread across the pistons.

2 plugs

I had a coil play up once on my Falco, and the engine ran very rough on one plug - it obviously needs both to get a good burn throughout the chamber. I seem to remember the Alphasud I learned to drive in had a flat-4 engine with twin sparks - it's not unusual.

i like the fact it may give ya more power but not so good when buying new plugs...:biggrin
