Any reccommendations at what level to set the Rev limiter at on an 05 RSV R

Hi Guys,

I've got an 05' RSV R and still have the redline set at the factory standard 6000rpm, seems to hold me back at higher speed and with track day season upon us I was wondering what levels any of you might reccommend for the track and for road use if it's worth moving the limiter up at all.

Cheers

Geoff.

The limiter is only an indicator that you self set , I am not aware that it has any control function. But then I have a Gen1 and mine is set to 8k rpm for commuting and adjusted to 10k rpm for track duty.

Hi mate, got my gen 2 factory set at 10,000, think stops making usefull power at about 10,200 ish, works fine for me.:thumbup

All depends what exhaust/mapping you have. If you are using the standard exhaust/silencers, then it should be using Map 1, which peaks just below 10,000rpm. However, if you are using open silencers, e.g. Akrapovic, and Map 2, then it peaks at about 10,200rpm.

As said above, it's just an indicator to remind you to change gear.

Can't see much point in setting it to peak torque as that is well shy of the maximum revs. Indicators are usually set for maximum power so that you don't go over-revving needlessly.

These engines arn't rev monsters and make their best and most power well below the rev limiter , as CK said shift in the fat part of the torque curve. Thats what v-twins are all about.

+1 on that. Having the shift light at the rev limit is pretty pointless.

It does not limit the revs. The ECU does that. It just displays the shift light. The factory don't intend you to leave it at 6000. That's just where it defaults back to after a battery out or 'reset'. afaik it's about the right place during running in too.

Yes, you can set it where you like, it makes no difference

My2p is that the peak torque is at circa 7k, if your revs drop say 500rpm between gears, I would suggest setting the light for peak torque +500.

Hope that makes sense. The point to consider when changing gear, is knowing you have nothing less than that available if required, when in the next gear, and with flexibility above that.

Like I say, just my2p :)
