Any ideas on Leaking Coolant

Well went out today and ran the bike for the first time in weeks and noticed that i had coolant leaking out of one of jubilee clips on the offside feed to the radiator. Now the radiator has been swapped out and when i did this i changed from the ****** snap on clips Ape use for simple standard jubilee jobbies! Since swapping over i have covered around 1000miles and the jubilee's had never leaked before, so i am just scratching the head as to why it would suddenly fail now after sitting idle for some time..

Any ideas??

I have since checked it all and the clip is fine i have simply re-fitted and tightened and ran the bike upto temp and no more leaks. I am just wanting to find out why it would be fine for a 1K miles of running (back in Sept) then once parked up for a few months it decides to start leaking on running upto temp, anyone else experienced anything like this??

:cheers

May be talking out my arse here :)

MAybe in the cold the rad metal contracts more than the jubilee clip metal.

I've had the same. After a few months of sitting idle it was weeping a bit when warming up. I tightened up and had no problems running it since.

the standard clips are *****. I don't reckon reckon much to the rubber ducting either (maybe why there's a few aftermarket kits about).

I don't think it's anything to stress about mind, just keep an eye on it for a while

Not a good anti freeze mix ??? Crap stuff not doing its job. ??? Cold,,, EXTRA cold weather we've had. :dunno:dunno:dunno

Cheers guys, no its a good mix with proper Ape approved coolant and its mixed as per the manual suggests. Think its just Weeksy and Rusty suggest i will just keep an eye on it, good that others have seen the same thing.

Hopefully the bloody weather will improve so as i can get out on the bugger. Was going to go out yesterday after the footy but when i pulled off the main road and was on the back roads the amount of **** in the middle of the road its just not worth the hassle or mess on the bike.

Roll on good weather.

Again cheers for the thoughts:thumbup:thumbup:thumbup

Mine was doing the same last year so I bought proper jub' clips and it was fine after that.
I reckoned it was the blob on the side of the alloy tube thats preventing a proper seal. Could be wrong tho.

I've only got out for two short-ish runs this year and I noticed a couple of days ago that it's back. So I'll nip them up and see if that's all it was.

Suppose it's another Italian build quality quirk they call charcter! :)

coolant with antifreeze added is more viscous than plain water...it will seep through openings where ever there's a nano-gap, whilst water won't. it could simply be that you didn't tighten the clips enough to begin with.

you mentioned you'd swapped out the clips for some decent ones ( 8mm stainless ??) but did you remember to check the clips on the thermostat housing also...
